RE: New rifle came in today

Gander -

The gun you are building is virtually identical to my CVA Mountain rifle, circa 1976. The only differences I can detect are that my trigger guard has 2 "hooks" verus your 1, your set trigger appears to have a bit more curvature than mine, and you have a raised washer under the screw which holds the lock on where mine are countersunk.

I'll post some pictures from different angles when I can to show the cheek patch finished by the factory. Won't be tonight though. Worn out from fooling with barrels, flyrods and tractor head gaskets.

RE: New rifle came in today

Just finished shaping one side and got it all sand down and put one coat of stain on. The deal with the stain is i put on one coat and then i go over it with 2000 grit paper and any spots show up dark black and then i know if i have to keep going or if its good to go with. So far everything looks A-Ok. Probably start on the other side tomorrow and see what i can do with that. As for now, once that coat of stain drys 100%, everything comes back off and i'll stain inside the patch box, barrel channel, trigger area, exe. And rub another coat of BLSO onto the ramrod. Cant wait to get this kit done and start on the BLSO finish and see how it comes out. Best part will be shooting it. This one is now my most favorite in my arsenol. This is only the first coat of stain and thats just a mock up to test for low spots. Entire stock will get a total of 4 coats of stain.
