[hr]

I got out today to see how this 45 cal. flinter shoots: man one heck of a barrel think I can close my eye and still hit the center of the bull.
I was shooting a barrel from the early years 5 digit serial number barrel that was never shot I purchase this past winter .I came across a PA Hunter stock refinished the stock, glassed the tang and got to shoot it today.I loaded 80 grains of 3F goex a 50 cal. wad under the patch RB and first shot high but center of target at the 50 yd mark.I then readjusted the rear sight and the next 10 rounds all dead center of the bull.I then played a little with the charge and stop at 90 grains all clover leaf group at the 50 yard target from the bench.
I then switched barrel and lock that came with the stock RB Barrel on the PA Hunter but did have some pitts in the bore funny shot real good with 85 grains of goex,I think the gun needs a tighter set-up seem the 018 patch and 490 RB loaded a little to easy think the barrel will do real well with 495 ball

I've never shot a .45 caliber flintlock. I bet that would be a lot of fun. I would not be worried about hunting deer with that rifle either. Just put that .440 ball in the right place and it should bring them down just fine.

According to the Hodgdon's manual just 60 grains of Pyrodex RS and a .440 roundball is doing 1926 fps. So if you're pushing 85 grains of 3f I have no idea what kind of fps you are getting out of that, but it must be 2200 fps or more. That ball would have a lot of smack to it.
