Western Oklahoma Hog At 177 Paces

Killed a nice buck from this same stand in November. This evening thedistance=177 long paces.Gun is TC Encore .50 caliber. Load was: 90 grains of Jim Shockey Gold,a 250 grain SST bullet and Winchester M/L primer.

Heard a noise behind me, turnedto look for a couple of minutes, turned back around and there were three hogs at the far end of the field. i moved out of the seat, took a rest offa tree limb, held about one foot over the hogs back and connected.

She laid there and kicked while i climbed out of thetree stand and re-loaded. Waited a couple of minutes for the kicking to stop and then went to the pig. She was stone dead. It was very dark and i dressed her by my headlights. The bulletdestroyed her liver. The bullet did not exit.

These boarscan behard to kill. They can be lying there apparently dying, hear a human voice or other noise and take off.

Photos will be posted tomorrow.

Now the bullet. It broke a couple of ribs going in. It had to be going pretty slow at that distance.

The bullet expansion was about perfect it looks. As for the pigs, they sure are an ugly cuss, when you think of them in relation to a domestic pig, but that looks like a nice size for eating.

Just the idea of that bullet able to break a couple ribs shows that the load you are using is more then enough to get the job done. Actually I think that bullet did everything you wanted it to do. Again, congratulations on a great hunt.

Actually I was talking to a warden a while back about hogs that were turned loose or escaped from farmsin Wisconsin. They actually made a breeding population in some small areas. And the Warden was telling me of the damage and destruction these hogs do in the woods. He said he hopes everyone of them dies off in the winter, which of course they do not. A large hog population I was told can turn into a nightmare of sorts for some landowners.

But I sure would like to hunt them somewhere else. That to me looks like fun.

"wish we had hogs in mt'

Just wait a while they will be there. When i was a kid in Randolph county, WV there were no hogs. Now folks are seeing them pretty frequently.

"Actually I think that bullet did everything you wanted it to do." Yes it did.Just weighed it=166.5 grains retained weight.
