RE: Muzzleloader Scope ????
The only exception to the scopes working on anything is when you go to a big spring gun. They will destroy most rifle scopes. Apparently has to do with the reverse recoil effect of the spring. Sorry, not really part of this forum but had to at least mention it. Yes, I have spring guns too. Seems like I just don't know when to quit. Still have my original Red Ryder Daisy that I got in 1944. If it even looks like a gun I will probably buy it.

Big 58
Hello, I have a question in my Big 58 caliber muzzle loader. I would like to put a scope on this rifle. My load is this: 525 grain real bullet, 120 grains FF, loads come out a 36" 1-36 twist. What I don't want to do is sink a bunch of money, but I want to shoot this smoke pole with better accuracy than open sights. What are my choices or what is advised? Ya gotta hold on to this cannon when you let loose this load, so the glass has to hold up! Give me your thoughts please! And thank you for your time.

Lee 58cal REALs are 440gr. Never seen a REAL in 525gr but trying to turn that rifle into a "sniper" with a cheap scope is a futile endeavor. Just trying to find a mount might be difficult. Is it even tapped well enough for a scope mount?
By the time you are done you could probably buy a new cheaper 50cal ML and shoot a 440gr-465gr conical. Used 54s pop up even cheaper. |
Not to change the subject but I sure miss Cayugad and his insight into muzzleloading stuff.
