What do you think about T/C's new muzzleloader?
It's called the triumph, it's asthetically pleasing, has nice lines, but how do you think the breech plug removal will work?

With the half twist breech plug design, I am sure they have product tested it enough to know that it will come out after a day of shooting without too much trouble. From all I have read on the rifle, the accuracy is exceptional, the recoil is very controlled, the large trigger guard is a good move, and all the other new features seem to be well thought out.

I think it can do nothing the encore or omega cant already do. The new speed breech is in my opinion just another gimick. surly it is functional and handy i suppose, but i never once have ifound my hex head plug on my encore a problem. it takes all of 15 seconds to remove with a small tool. another thing about the triumph i dont like is they offer it in no wood stocks. call me old fashioned but i like wood stocks, its only offered in plastic (wait synthetic,..... it sounds better). SupposidlyT/C has worked the trigger a bit, lightning the pull down to 3.5lbs. i know the encores have a heavier break(Pre 07's atleast do), but its such a good trigger design to begin with their is ZERO creep and it breaks crisp. Besides the triggers can betailored to your personal needs anyways.each to their own i guess.but i know i wont be purchasing a Triumph any time soon.....might go to my dealer to check out the new Icon's and see what they look like!

I'll stick to my Omega but it seems like a another great gun--just not worth trading the Omega in for.

Im interested in how easily the breechplug is removed after its been shot for an hour or so. i know it has those rings but we all know that nothing can be sealed 100%.

RE: What do you think about T/C's new muzzleloader?
the biggest area to "leak" is acually where the 209 primer seats.upon firing, the pressure is so great the primer is forced back just enough to allow some gasses to slip buy. even the tightest of actions cannot 100% stop this. any breech plug with some thread tape on the threads will stop gasses from slipping thru the threads, the new gas rings so to speak are a fancy fix for a non problem. the "problem" so to speak is where the primer seats.

I'm not too crazy about paying 40 or 50 bucks for a spare breech plug...
The Knight KP-1 looks more interesting to me. |
RE: What do you think about T/C's new muzzleloader?
Underclocked, The KP1 is definately anice rifle, I also like the KRB7 it too is a nice rifle. It's about time knight dropped the whole primer disc/cap holder gimmick. I still am the proud owner of the original disc, it was the ground breaker for the 209 primer. But Knight lost me, when after years of product development, they still went with the primer holder (all the way to 2006), I thought it was a cheezy way to suck money out of your customers. They made tools to set the primer in their round discs, when all of their competitors went to just placing the 209 primer on the back of the breech plug!My newest addition to my ML collection is T/C's Omega laminated thumbhole stock. It's a beautiful gun, that has no blow back. That was another thing I didn't like on the Knight, the bottom of my scope always got burnt! Then you had a 1/2 hour process of taking the bolt apart, cleaning and oiling it. I'm glad they're finally catching up with the rest of the industry, and not rying to suck every last penny out of their consumer.................
