Knight MK-85 ???

I can't get my search to work on this site so I need to ask what info can you guys give me on the MK-85? Pros/cons pics. I really want a kentucky or tennesse style muzzleloader but can't afford a big price tag. I Seen a knightMK-85 for sale for 250Cdn with scope and all accessories. Might remove the scope. If I can't get a more traditional style then I think a Knight would sufice. Thanks guys.

I ran a search on the word Kentucky in the black powder forum with a 1 year time frame and got three pages of hits.

As for the MK-85 they are a great rifle for shooting sabots. They work real good. Do not let the old technology scare you. They are a little harder to clean then some of the new rifles, but with out a doubt they are a good rifle. If it is used make sure the bore is good and the breech plug in good shape.

The Tennessee short rifle is I am sure a very good quality rifle, They also have a pretty good price tag to them. I am not sure if they would meet your price range.

The Kentucky Rifle by Traditions is a great shooting rifle. My friend has one and it is a roundball shooter without a doubt. I think Frontier Gander also has this rifle. They are also high priced as I remember

The Tradition Woodsman is their Hawkins. I have one but mine being an older one has a 1-66 twist roundball barrel. With out a doubt it is a good shooting rifle. The new ones come with a 1-48 barrel and sell for around $275 american. I am sure you can find them cheaper somewhere else.

Lyman Trade Rifles are one of my favorite rifles. I have a .54 caliber and they are around $259.00 american. With a 1-48 twist they shoot roundball and conicals well.

Actually the Tradition rifles are good rifles. They shoot well and function well. I own a number of Tradition rifles.

MK-85. Fantastic rifle. Trigger is as good as it gets on factory ML. Tom.

cayaqad hit the nail on the head when he said to not be fooled by the new technology. That MK 85 is a great rifle. The ONLY disadvantage is the cleaning process. I have a few ML's and my Knight BK 92 would be the last to go. It shoots a Barnes 295 gr bullet backed up with 95 gr pyro like a centerfire. There are some great prices on new Knightsnow. Advertising was not one of Knights strong suites. They had it their wayfor a long time. Then TC'sconstant "it easier to clean" ads pretty well shut Knights ML down.

I have owned a knight MK-85 Knight Hawk (stainless barrel, thumbhole composite stock) for 12 years. I shot a doe in the head at 106 yards this season (she was bedded) and killed a 160" 10 point at 170 yards using 100 grains of ffg and a 250 grain shockwave. I just purchased a T/C Prohunter ONLY because my oldest son is now into hunting. I have grown to love the Knight MK-85, it is a great gun. If you can purchase for the price quoted, BUY IT!

Try http://www.williamsgunsight.com/and click on the Used Guns and then Black Powder link. They had 2 percussion TC with double triggers 50 cal about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I called them about both rifles, but there was both percussion and not FL, which is what I was interested in. I just check and they lowered the price on one to $119.
