What sabot do i use?
 

Im such a blonde, years ago i bought over2000 .44cal 240 grain lead bullets to reload my 44 mag i had. What sabot can i use with these? They'll be used in my winchester x-150 .50cal. Had these bullets in there all those years and then it just hits me lol. I cant hunt with them but i can atleast target shoot.

Another thing, These are flat nose bullets, how will they shoot?

I found these at cabelas. reviews seemed good so maybe these will work out?

Wow Jon, just last night I was wondering what I did with the leftover lead .44 bullets I used to shoot with the same thing in mind! I'd guess getwhatever is advertised to work with a .429 bullet and try it out. EERIE,dude!

I cast my own .45 (.452) and have made a ton of them. I'm new to the whole ML, sabot side of shooting. Are you telling me I can shoot these through a ML with a sabot?
I cast 2 types, a roundnose 230 gr, and a flatnose 250 grain

T/C cheap shots =lead .45 hp in a sabot,can't see why not

heres the bullets. i measured it and its .429 dia. so i think so sabots from cabelas will work. I'll check ebay for best prices before ordering.

My home cast bullets are all coated with Alox instead of lube in the grooves. Will that matter with ML shooting?

hmm this could be fun, all kinds of bullets in cabelas shooting magazine.
100 xtp bullets $ 17.49

Magtech 100 f $13.49

Rainier 500 $42-43

These look great to and my fav. LBT series solid bullets 100 $21-24 depending on weight. Guess i'll just have to pick up some sabots and give these bullets a try.

I think it'll be the sabot that ends up being the priciest piece of the deal. I'm starting to get more curious as to how well they should do. You could always play around with hardness, weight, profile, etc.Not to mention .45 bullets can be had in .451,.452 and.454 typically.Keep in mind it's not hard to duplicate .45-70 ballistics with these guns...I'm gonna get some biggies from Bullshop one of these days but I'm really thinking of the possibilities here as well. A 350gr hardcast with a big meplat would be a hell of a killing bullet if you ask me...and you could drive 'em pretty quick I would think.
Actually Mac if I were you, being that you have a casting setup already, I'd be getting a .50 mold!

Already on order. I'm getting one that casts a roundball or conical in the same mould. (2 cavity mould)
