But the bullet didnt offer an exit wound. I dunno, i like bullets that provide an enterance and exit hole.
I hit the deer in the rear, right in the anus and it lodged in the spine. I am sure if I had hit the deer in the ribs or shoulder it would have gone thru the deer for an exit wound. I will try them in my "penetration test", which is 18" of packed top soil in a 5 gallon bucket. A good bullet will go all the way thru, bust the bottom out and lodge into a 2x6 and not loose any weight. A poor bullet will overexpand and only go 6 or 7 inches into the soil or bust apart. Nothing tears up an anus quite like a gold dot. A very, very, good anus projectile.

I'd love to try those bullets out. Are they better than XTP's or SW's in your opinion?

In my opinion the GD are superior to the XTP on weight retention. If you shoot them into sand the jacket comes off. Sabotshooter said this. The GD loose NOTHING in this test, they hold all it weight. I believe sand is harder than flesh. As for SW, they are the hardest loading projectile of all I have ever tried, even in a clean bore. I can't use them in my guns. I have seen posts where they shoot right thru and do NOT mushroom, allowing deer to run a long distance and not recoving the animal because of poor bloodtrail, the mushroom produces MASSIVE tissue shock and damage. Well no blood trail in NOT good. So based on this logic, I believe the GD are superior to the SW and the XTP. That is my logic. I believe the Nosler Partition is superior to the GD, but the cost of $49 instead of $15. Therefore I believe GD is superior for good hunting projectile based on these criteria.

I hear ya. And I agree this projectile is definitely a good choice for anuses.

The nice thing about Gold Dots is that, if the deer doesn't go down, one can count on being able to trust thathe missed the deer entirely. So ifonly one goes downout of three attempts, 2would haveto be misses, they would just have to be.

I figure the only way to improve the Gold Dot is a guidance system. So that, once the Gold Dot leaves the muzzle, its guidance system alters its path as need be, so that it impacts the deer right behind the shoulder or in the anus.

I notice that the anus shot isn't discussed in HuntingNet.com's URL on shot placement. They are really missing out on a good shot now that we haveGold Dots. Why don't we lobby to have that shot added to the URL? But since that kind of shot is, as you previously noted, the norm in Pennsyvania on deer drives, I suggest we call it the Pennsyvania Heart Shot.
