RE: XTP Mag 240gr

i used the 240 grain XTP sabotedbullets for many years, all in .44 caliber.Made a lot of bang, flops on deer with them. Do not think that i ever used theXTP Mag bullets. Last fall i replenished my supply at Bass Pro Shops in OK City when i boughtthem with the Traditions brand.

Most of the XTP bullets used now in sabots are .45 caliber and i do not like them as well as the .44 caliber. They do not shoot quite as well in my guns.

The guns that i use most shoot the 240 grain XTP and the 250 grain SST to the same point of aim at 100 yards. Been using theSST lately and like ita lot. It is also a good deer and hog killer.

RE: XTP Mag 240gr

The first sabots I tried in my Kodiak were the TC Cheapshots (advertised as "XTP performance without the price"). They are 240 gr. with the black Mag Express sabot, not sure what diameter but will find out this weekend when I put a calipers on them. Anyway, they shot excellent out of my Kodiak at 50 yds. over 85 gr. of Pyro RS, a Winchester 209 primer and swabbing between shots. They load very easily in my barrel and the recovered sabots look fantastic, fully opened and found about 10 yards from the firing line. I have not had another chance to try different powder loads or distances with them yet but I am pleased with the accuracy so far. I think I payed either $7 for 20 of them, but have since found them for $6 on ebay, so they're in that .30-.35 per shot range.

That shot low and right was a called flyer, the others measure 1.3" center to center.

My bad... they are the TC Mag Express Sabots with XTP Bullets. The box doesn't state the diameter. .50 cal 240 gr. What's the difference between XTP and the XTP Mag?
I may pick up some 300 gr to compare the two.

Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciate!

Big Ol Gobbler

The XTP mags they take the copper and roll it onver into the nose to make the bullet a little more difficut to open - works better @ ML velocities.... I am pretty Cayugad is correct if they are Mags - they are .452 in diameter...

I'm confused. I thought the TC Mag Express sabot in 50 cal was for 44 cal .429-.430 and the same sabot in 54 cal was for 45 cal .451-.452.

I happen to be looking for sabots for some .430 44 cal 240 grain XTP's and these are on the list.

I like them Cheap shots as well but they don't come in the 300's. I can't get them to group great but I was happy with them. See if you guys can try some Sure Shot sabots. I bought some at Wal Mart in 230 grain. They were as cheap as the Cheap Shots and I think they're better. They only came in 230 grain there. Try them out!!

yeoman

Hornady makes the 240 grain XTP. They make two versions in two different calibers...

The Hornady 240 grain XTP is .430 (44 cal) and is normally found in a Green Sabot

The Hornady 240 grain XTP-Mag is a .452 (45 cal) and is normally in a black sabot

TC offers the same bullet in the same sabot combinations, except their sabots are typically thinner than the sabots supplied byHornady.

Hope this helps
