ML scopes VS. rifle scopes?

Is there a big difference between rifle vs. Muzzle loader scopes? I bought a Bushnell Banner Dusk andDawn 3-9x40 ML scopelast week for 99and today noticed a Dusk and Dawn 4-12x40 for 99but I guess it's a rifle scope. Whats the difference?

The differnence is usually where the parallex is set in them and the eye relief. I like 3.8-4.0+ inches of eye relief in my scopes for the muzzleloader. The parallex is fine 50-75 yards for me as that's where most my shooting is. Other then that, what reason would someone have for anything with more then 9X on a muzzleloader.

They both are probably rifle scopes... the 4x12 will probably have a adjustable objective while the 3x9 doesn't. Some ML scopes are also designed with a shorter parallax...

I really think the Dusk and Dawn is a true rifle scope...

That Leupold VX-1 would be an excellent scope. You really did not need to post that (although I book marked it) as I have a nice scope on the White. But that sure would make about the perfect outfit.

Not surewhat your message is all about, but if you are considering a VX-I - looks like a 3x9x40 matte finish might look here...

http://www.scopesnmore.com/riflescopes4less/leupold_vx-i_rifle_scopes.htm

might be less money... but my personal belief is that the Bushnell Elite 3200 3x9x40 with a ballistic reticle and rain guard lens is a better scope than the VX-I

Does the Bushnell have 4.2 eye relief, 75yds fixedParallax and Heavy Duplex reticle?

According to Bushnell all of their rifle scopes will work fine on m/l. I had the same question and called their tech support and was informed that the "shock" of the m/l was really no greater than that of a centerfire rifle and not to worry about it. I haven't and so far the scopes have held out fine.

Believe it or not though airguns are pretty hard on scopes though.

No the eye relief is not that big, it is only 3.3 on 9 power but back from that it does go over 4". I do not have a problem with recoil so the eye relief has not been a problem. Use the same scope on my 300 Win Mag also. The VX-II's eye relief is only 3.7 on 9 power...

Why would you want a 75 yd parallex? Are not shotgun scopes locked at 50 yards? Bushnells are set parallax free @ 100 yards as most riflescopes are.

The reticle is a fine dual x with ballistic hashes. Great for a ML and I once had a heavy (thick) reticle and really did not like it. It just blocked out to much of the view.

One of the better things about the scope no - scope covers are necessary 90% of the time, heavy snow fall can be a problem rain not a problem.

These are the old Bausch and Lomb scopes, Bushnell bought them out several years ago. They are not the typical low end Bushnell, which by all accounts are great scopes also. Actually I have replaced VX-II's with these and really do like them better and have not seen a difference in lens or light gathering - if any thing these lenses may be better than the old VX-II's.

The 4200 is the best of the line but not the money I want to spend, when the 3200's work so well, I forgot to add the the 44M 3x9x40 is $179.00 and the 44B (ballistic) is $279.00 - both scopes come with a fast focus eye piece if you need it. and on some occasions with us old guys and bad eyes it is really nice.

Just a bigger bang for the buck....

RE: ML scopes VS. rifle scopes?

All my ML's have worn rifle scopes. I also have never had a Eye relief problem with any of the 3000 series or any other scope for that matter. IMO the 3200 elite is a great bang for your buck in terms of optics. If buying a leupold it would be a VXII or preferably the Vari X III(which is essentially theVXII repackaged but is a 1 piece scope tube vs 3...!). Though unlessit was a super deal my money will goelsewhere....bushnell or zeiss namely;)!

I see no need for any rifle to have 12x scope for biggame hunting but if you do then go for it.
