QUICK HELP PLEASE!
I'm gettin ready to head out to BassPro in and hour or so, what should I get to start working up a load in my new rifle?
I have a CVA Optima Pro. |
RE: QUICK HELP PLEASE!
What ever primers you are set up for, Pyrodex is cheap and reliable I would get both RS and P some Sabor Tooth and Power belts in 295gr possably some TC cheap Shots if you can get a set of different thicknessof sabots and possably some XTP in 250 or 300 gr weight. Some of this depends on what is available some on how much you want to spend and if you are intending to deer hunt check your state laws for what is legal. Lee

TC shockwaves are also a good choice if you expect longer shots.

The quickest way to get shooting, just shooting not working up a load or expecting a great target... T7 - 50 cal pellets... only for convienince later switch to loose As much as I hate to suggest them but they are convienent - 295 grain powerbelts - maybe two packages Winchester 209A shotgun primers 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 inch patches A range rod with a TC Extended Super Jag Some windex to moisten - just moist not damp not wet patches with. Targets - & maybe target dots Ear plugs & safety glasses Load: Pop 2 primers - no powder Swab barrel 2 50 grain pellets 1 powerbelt 1 primer aim & pull Then swab barrel (short rapid strokes) and repeat process You are gonna love it - it is really fun Have fun let us know The above formula is just to get you started quickly... Make sure you feel, hear projectile seat on top of pellets. Even if you crush the pellet somewhat it will work get the bullet down. OPP's I forgot to say follow the directions in your owners manual... mike |
RE: QUICK HELP PLEASE!
Do I need those red primer cases or do they come with the primers?

No, I do not think so - the Optima is like the Encore or Omega - you just load the primer into the breech plug - you might want to get a 209 capper - It makes it a lot easier to load.... than using your stubbly fingers like mine. At some point down the road you might want to switch breech plugs and get a 25ACP system - really makes loading the primer easier and MUCH cleaner... |

Before I head to Bass Pro.. I think I would read my manual and become more familiar with the rifle, the ignition, and the suggested loads and powder which is all in the book. They can tell you loads that have a high probability of working in your rifle.
