Questions on buffalo bullet 285 grains
 

I found on ebay 5 boxes of buffalo bullets/sabots in 285 grain hollow points. 180 bullets for 49.00 w/free shipping. My only experience was with some 225 grain buffalo bullets with my CVA buckhorn (been sold) and at 100 yards i got a group that a quarter could cover. Got realllllllllllll lucky. [:-]

Anyway, with my omega I shoot 330 grain extreme elite HD and am now down to 30 rounds and 110 grains.. I want to use these as target and hunting shooting. Anyone have any experience with the 285 grain jobbies? Shoot...since that only .27 cents a bullet I don't think I went to wrong.

Cayugad...maybe you?

I might have shot them. Looking over my notes I see no notation of them through. Trouble is I have shot so many different bullets thatI am loosing track of all of them.

My favorite Buffalo Bullet sabot combination are the 375 grain. They shoot very well out of a number of different rifles. I am sorry I can not help you more.

I do have a case of 385 grain Buffalo Bullet Conicals that I am not too impressed with. But they are still fun to shoot.

I bought a box of Buffalo SSB's like that on sale a couple of years ago, I thought they were 287gr but may be remembering wrong. They shot very well in the gun I tried them in but I haven't been able to find any more, I think they were discontinued. If you got some of them and decide you don't like them I might be interested in taking them off your hands.

It sounds like you bought that case of 385's we discussed a while back. I bought a single box to try out before diving in for the whole case. They didn't work in the gun I was trying them in but I still have other guns to try so the jury is still out on them. They didn't shoot anywhere near as well as the No Excuses do.

dmurphy - Yes I bought the whole case. 720 of them to be exact. I have shot a lot of them but have yet to find a rifle that really likes them. Most have just moderate accuracy but I have several more rifles to test them in.

I always figure if they did not shoot good, for the price I got them for, I could not buy pure lead cheaper. I'll just melt them down and cast them into other projectiles.

I thought about doing the same thing and melting them down if they didn't work, I ended up getting a box locally and trying them first and decided they wernt worth the time for now. I have enough lead right now and a dentist who is saving it for me for free (maybe 10 to 15 pounds a year). I have maybe 75 to 100 pounds right now and only go through about 20 pounds a year so I'm set for a while. The only thing that might increase my usage is the fact that a friend recently bought a conical mould from mountain molds for a 460gr No Excuses style bullet. If he lets me borrow it I could go through some lead real quick casting a few hundred of those.

I looked up my data on the Buffalo 285 and the load I used was 100gr of 777 2F for a velocity of 1750fps at 5 yards. Shot about 1 to 1.5 inch groups and loaded pretty easy in my gun when swabbing between shots. I live at 6500 feet and the trajectory up here using a 6" pointblank range sight in puts it about 3" high at 85 yards, dead on at 150 yardsand 3" low at 177 yards. It's down about 6.6" at 200 yards and doesn't dropbelow 1000fpe until about 330 yards. They should make a good deer load, maybe even elk.

all I can say is wow!! I already have a great deer round, but I'm almost out of Precision Extreme Elite HD in 330 grains. Now with getting 180 rounds I should be good to go for a while now. Good luck in getting some from the guy I got mine from.
