More time with the Kodiak...
Well, last week I made some rude comment about the Kodiak being the "uglier sister" to the Apex. What can I say, ugly girls need love too, and the nice thing about them is they are willing to work for it;). The Kodiak seems willing to work for some love too...
I wanted to try some sabots and see how tight the bore was before I invested in bulk so I picked up some 240 gr. TC Cheapshots and started the new year off with a bang: To say the least I was impressed. The four shots are 1.3" center to center and I knew when I pulled the flyer low and left. This was with open sights and using the railing of my deck as a rest. I swabbed between shots with a spit patch/dry patchand am currently using Winchester 209 shotgun primers. The sabots (black Mag Express) loaded easily, even on follow up shots. Life is good! Oh, I checked the trigger pull on Friday. It is somewhere between 5 and 7.5 lbs, not the 10-15 I imagined but still too heavy. I don't like the gun not to go off when I expect it to. I will have that worked on, but this is a pretty good group for a heavy trigger I thought. ![]() |
RE: More time with the Kodiak...
I should have said the flyer was low and to the right, not left...

That's great Zugunruhe. Speaking of ugly stepsisters, I also have one coming so I be watching your progress with interest.

Since I'm new to inlines, I'm posting a picture of my breech plug after the five shots you see on the target. Its not totally clear, but the center indention around the flash hole is packed with moist gray powder residue. Is this normal or are my between shot spit patches too moist? I haven't experienced any irregularities in firing or flyers on target, so maybe it's just normal fouling.

RE: More time with the Kodiak...
Are you shooting APP or Shockey Gold as your powder? This will often times leave a light gray residue in the barrel and on the breech plug. I hope you are happy with the rifle, it keeps shooting well, and your happy with your purchase.

Currently shooting Pyro RS. I have shot some 777 too, with similar results, and a nasty crud ring to boot!

Nice group. You should be happy with that. I can get groups like that at 50 yards but I'm having some serious trouble past that. I have to get it figured out. I have an Apex as well. Best of luck to you.
