RE: Which one and why?

I was also thinking of a used Savage, as odds are good the barrel might not have been abused with slopply cleaning and bp, but used wasnt specified in the rules?

I dont have anywhere near 600 in my Knight Disc Elite I picked up when Sportmans Wharehouse was clearancing them out. I had a Simmons Whitetail Classic laying around from a pass through Cabelas Bargain Cave. I took 2 does and a nice 8 pt and my son in law used it for 2 does. As good as the Savages sound, I have full confidence in my Knight, and with this T7 powder, it sure cleans easier than my TC Hawken did using BP. I'd have no problem sticking with Knight.

I got $565 in my Omega. $385 for the rifle, $100 for S&W 3-9x42 scope, $30for the Simms recoil pad, $40 for the Maxima one piece base, and $10 for the power rod handle from Cabela's. It's not the greatest gun or set-up but since I have darn near $600 bucks in her I think I'llkeep her.

Its amazing all the different combinations there are that people mentioned. I knew that a question like this would bring out some excellent posts as for combinations new shooters could try and maybe benefit from.

RE: Which one and why?

If I could only have one inline muzzleloader it would be a Remington 700 MLS in .50 caliber.I like the way it feels as I own several Remington 700 centerfire rifles. With the green bolt tool it is easy to clean,as mentioned by a previous poster. The Remington 700 MLS has an excellent quality barrel,an excellent easily adjustable trigger(even if Remington's lawyers say not to mess with it),andthey sell for $200-$300 used.I would include a set of Leupolds QR scope mounts($75 with rings)in case I were to bump the scope hard enough to wonder if the zero was lost, allowing the use of the iron sights.I would opt for a Bushnell 3200 series 3-9x40mm scope(199 on Ebay).I have one of these that has stood up to many full power hunting loadswith no problems.I purchased my first Remington 700 muzzleloader at Outdoor World when they were clearancing them for $200.That is how I got started shooting inline muzzleloaders.I now have 5 Remingtons,1 TC Encore,1 TC Black Diamond.I think that they are a lot of fun to shoot.

Dave, you can add a third vote for the Whites. My only problem would be picking between the three I currently own, but the Ultra Mag .504 would HAVE to be a strong contender (and I do own a Contender G2 m/l :D) for top spot.

I would stick with the Nef ss sidekick with 25 acp breech. 269 plus 60. Two scopes 3x9x40 swift 140 and a tc 1x32 100 for muzzleloader season.

If I had to pick an in-line with $600, I would probably find another Knight Wolverine and put a Burris scope on it. I would still have enough money left over to shoot the rifle!!

Isn't it a shame we can't recommend Whites withoutknowing there is no real supply of the rifles and the company is basically a farce at this point?

Scoped Ultra Mag and open-sighted Whitetail in Umag stock. Havenow scoped the Whitetail with a 3x9 Leupold. There is no perfect rifle but, IMHO, there is no better muzzleloader to be had.

Cdad! Where ya been? :)

Underclocked..

I have to agree. It is a shame the company folded like it did. I have more people in IM's ask me about my White Ultra Mag in .504. You would sure think there would be a market for them. I think the price tag was a little to high with the origninal company product, but then you get what you pay for and I never liked to part with my dollars. That was why when that Ultra Mag was $299.00 I never even questioned it. I jumped. I only wish now, I'd jumped twice. I could have sold the second one a couple times over.
