Here is the story to my late season smokepole deer
I was sitting and my post I heard deer walking my way, I was overlooking a beanfield well the first deer steps out and its this 8 pointer yes I know when does a buck step out first?? well he is making his way to my shooting lane I cut in the thicket I was sitting in now I have to make the choice to shoot him or not I decided to shoot ( I had 5-10 secs tops to make the call) once he reaches my lane I give the old bahhhhh to stop him steady the crosshairs and smoke him (118 yards rangefinder) he takes off like lighting and falls just inside the bush on the oposite side of the field NOW before the smoke clears right after the shot another bigger bucks takes off along with 2 does and I am like WTFx1000 my luck sucks BIG time but I was happy none the less let that big boy grow bigger for next year, I have a shockwave with his name on it.. all in all a good week even with the super cold temps I shot my deer on the coldest morning -20..
here is a pic not the biggest deer but I love getting them with the smokepole and have hung up the shotgun for good.. thanks to everyone for all the help the new omega is sweet and shoots just as good as my old Z5..

The other one must have been some buck to out do that one. The one you got would have been a trophy to me.. Congratulations on a nice buck and a great shot. Muzzleloaders are sure the way to hunt. Next year the big one will give you a chance.

Boy some guys have all the luck. I hunted hard all year and i only saw one shooter buck. You shoot a great 8pt and then have another bigger buck walk out. I wanna hunt with you next year. lol

I will always shoot the first buck in the situation you had, if he met my criteria. I'd consider it odd for the more mature buck to be following a subordinate. Just my experience.
