Another "took my 1st ML deer" thread!
The ML I ordered didn't arrive before the weekend, but my buddy had 2 and was able to borrow a 3rd for three of us to hunton Sat. We didn't see anything all morning, sowe decided to push the block of woods we werehunting (~15 acres on a couplehundred of farm land). Three does popped up and ran into the field about 125 yds. from me on the other side of a thin tree line and stopped. The middle guy shot and appeared to have missed, then they started trotting across and away from me when I shot and dropped one. Ended up being a lung shot (purely luck!)!
The gun was a CVA "something" (bolt action)with blued barrel and 9 power scope pushing 100 gr. ofPyrodex and a Hornady sabot round (not sure on the bullet size). Some speak poorly ofBPI/CVA but that's the longest shotI've ever taken at a deer and actually hit it! I'm eager to get mystainless APEX! I think the high light of the day was when my 2 self-admitted redneck buddies helped me tieitto the top of my VW station wagon (they call it the "Kraut Wagon"). I'm a little anal about keeping my car clean and maintained,so they thought it was a hoot that Itied a bloody dead animal to the top. Hey, I had to get herhome somehow!!! :) |
