i saw a picture of a lyman muzzleloader called the breakaway muzzleloader.......has a ambidextrous break open action....50 cal...hammerless......tang safety.......1;28 twist....does anybody have one or seen one????????i have to shoot left handed so this looks interesting......

Ordered one from MidSouth, it has been sitting in the UPS warehouse since last Thursday!!! Will be here today and I will let you know what I think about it as far as fit and finish etc. and if I have time how it shoots.

The Big Brown Truck was here, got the Mustang. One nice lookin piece, fit and finish is excellent, vey nice looking wood. It locks up very tight and the magnatised breech plug grabs the 209 primer and holds it in place a nice touch. Mounted a Simmons Master Hunter on it with the supplied bases and now off to the back yard to burn some powder.

Tried my favorite load for my Omega in the Mustang, 2 777 pellets and 240gr. DeadCenter bullets. Dead on at 25 after bore sighting {lucked out} moved back to 80yds. Three shots two inches high and an inch to the left. Around a 1.5 in. group. Adjusted the scope and three more one inch high maybe a little less than and inch and a half group this time. Trigger pull is real nice and cleaning is a breeze, so far so good. I think I am going to like my new toy.

What about a crud ring? Was it there?
Retrieve any plastic sabots? Any cuts?
How about primer or powder blowback... any present?
How tame was the felt recoil?

Hadn't thought about the sabots, went out back and looked and they seem to be coming apart!!! Just finding petals, should I be concerned?
Had a bit of a crud ring on the first couple shots, got the Kleenbore 209's out and it was almost non- existant.
No or very little blowback on the rifle or in the breech area. Recoil is very mild compared to the Omega or a CVA Kodiak.
Did notice the bullet sabot fit in this rifle is a bit loose compared to my other muzzys, could that be the cause of the sabots coming apart.

MMP blue sabots coming apart is common - even two petals sometimes. Should not affect your accuracy - which it doesn't. Supposedly that's been fixed with a little better polymer. I dunno. I can only base that one one single report! Need more reports I guess!

If the bore feels looser than the Omega, that'll keep you from grunting & shaking while seating many of the common sabot/bullets. That shouldn't translate into bad shot groups. It just means that most times - your Omega & Breakaway will prefer different bullets.

I have some Shockwaves that are are pain in the ass to load in my Omega, will give them a try.
