During regular rifle season on my ML's I use a 3x9x40 -> most often a Bushnell Elite 3200 with the rain guard lens - no need for scope cover most of the time... during ML season open fiber optic sights - Idaho - no scopes for ML season.... |
RE: How many use open sights vs scope
Depends on the rifle I am using and where I will be hunting. I have 3-9x40 for open field and everything else, 1.5-4.5x32 for woods plus anything I might encounter, but my favorite is getting to be my 2-7x32mm it just seems like the perfect power all around scope for a muzzleloader.
I also hunt with open sights since scopes are not allowed in the muzzleloader season here in Wisconsin. |
RE: How many use open sights vs scope
1.5-4.5x32 Bushnell Trophy w/circle recticle

RE: How many use open sights vs scope
im still an iron site guy but i dont shoot more than 70 yards in the woods i hunt. i may fire up my omega next year and put one of those scope thingies on it. my brothers sport a bushnell trophy banner with circle x reticle and its a great shooter.

RE: How many use open sights vs scope
I only use open sights. cant use a scope during Ml'er season.
|
RE: How many use open sights vs scope
I use scopes only. 2-7 and 3-9 are my preference although I do have one 2X on a pistol.
|
RE: How many use open sights vs scope
I don't use a scope and probably never will. For one thing it's illegal to use one in ML season here and I just prefer the challenge. I'll only shoot 100 yards.

RE: How many use open sights vs scope
Open sight with my kodiak 50cal. I would like to put a scope on but I can only use it during the firearm season and have to take it off during muzzleloader season. Too much hassle, so I don't bother putting a scope on.

RE: How many use open sights vs scope
I scope all my muzzleloaders except the flintlock and a couple of Hawkens. I am 68 years old and iron sights are not worth a hoot for me as they are just a big blur. I usually scope my elk rifles (an Omega and an NEF Huntsman) with 1.5-5 power Simons Pro-diamond scopes and usually leave them on 1.5 unless the shot is long and has time to spend changing the scope power. In the trees a 1.5 power scope is as quick to use as iron sights. Arizona allows scopes which is great for me.
