Thanks for all the great help guys! I think I'll probably go with the NEF Sidekick unless I can find a sale on something better. I decided that I'll probably keep my other one too, just as an extra for my friends and stuff.

I'm with outdoorslover. I'm considering an entry-level muzzleloader to expand my hunting opportunities. Looking at either the NEF Sidekick or the CVA Wolf. Right now I'm leaning toward the Sidekick. It seems to have a good reputation for performance at a reasonable price. Only issue seems to be that the ramrod isn't very good and it is suggested that a better one be purchased.

I have the NEF Huntsman and I agree the ramrod is at best an emergency only rod. I purchased the improved one from Hubbards and it is great. In fact I have a short barrel rod that I bought first by accident before I realized that I have the longer barrel on mine. If anyone needs a great rod for the shorter barrel version email me. [email protected]. The Hubbard rod ends up two inches longer when extended than the stock rod also which is really nice as you have something to hang on to when using it. It is solid high quality brass and very tough.

I looked at the NEF yesterday and love it already. It has great sights and is built extremely well. The only things I don't like about it is the pathetic ramrod and the fact that you can't get a sight picture unless the gun is cocked. Those are minor though and I'm hoping to purchase it soon. I found a returned one in nickel and stainless for 206 dollars. Do you think this is a good price? It's 240 bucks regularly. Thanks guys!

spend the $240 on a new one. even tho the others may never have been shot. you have no clue what the people could have done to it.

outdoorslover,

There was a place in new york which had a website and was selling the SS sidekick for 192.00 and the SSHuntsman for a little less. Brand New ones. Shipping was $25.00. I would have bought mine there but I used cabela's points. I've lost the link but you may try a google search.

Yeah, Frontier Gander, that one actually had been shot and was a little banged up. That's probably good advice. Thanks for the further help guys.

I can vouch for the CVA Wolf. Bought one for my son this year it shoots so sweet I nearly took it away from him the first time we went out to shoot it ;)

Bought a CVA Wolf two weeks ago and it shoots great. It should be right in your bugdet. I'd look at cabelas or bass pro. You could probably get it with a scope for around $200
