Should I Expect Instant Kills From My Knight Disc?

I have never harvested a deer with my muzzleloader so this year I am thinking of taking it with me on opening day of our rifle season
(Just to add a little sport to rifle hunting). I am shooting a Knight Disc loadeded with a 295 grain Power Belts with 100 grains of powder. My shots will be at most 75 yards. My question is should I expect instant kills from this combination? The reason that I ask is that I hunt right beside a very steep draw that if the deer make it into they are extremely difficult to get out. If they run more than 30-40 yards I am in for a drag. Just curious as to what you guys think?

Thanks,

HANKFAN

Don't expect anything with deer. I once shot a spike with a 30-06 through the neck and one shoulder and it ran for more than 500 yards all the while leaving a blood trail that a blind man could follow. It lost enough blood within the first 100 yards to make an elk pass out but it kept on going. The only instant kill is through the brain and that's not a very smart shot anyway.

Bigbulls is correct. You can't predict deer. A good broadside shot throught the shoulders works well. Neck shots can be tricky. Good luck.

These fellows are right on the mark. Although I will wager, if you place that bullet in the right place, you will not have to track very far, if at all. I have knocked them off their feet with a round ball, so as they said, deer are hard to judge. The experience comes in the fact that you are giving that hunt a special challenge. You will have one chance (normally) to make your shot good, and there is that slim chance with an inline, that it might not go off.... Good luck hunting, and be safe. Let us know how you did...

You know guys for all the deer I shot, with rifles and muzzleloaders, I see the muzzleloader deer almost alway run at least 20 yards and sometimes up to 200 yards. But it an extreame rarity I see a one run from a well placed 270 win shot.

Muzzleloaders don't put them in shock as well as rifles because of the lack of speed. Usually they create so much damage that the deer expire that way. I would expect some more distance unless you put one through a major bone like the spine or shoulders.

My Knight is the most accurate gun I own. I use it whenever I can. The first shot is the most important. Good luck, be confident, the gun will do the job.
