Anything shoot as consistant as pyrodex?

I'm fairly happy w/ the 2" groups at 150ydsout of my Omegaw/120 gr of 777, 250 gr shockwave, and 777 primers. I don't have any noticable crud ring.. loaded 5 shots back to back w/o a single issue...

BUT... my father seems to think that he shot better groups out of his Knight Wolverine w/ #11 cap and 100gr of pyrodex w/ a 240gr XTP... than he did w/his new Encore, 100gr of 777, and 240 gr xtp.. using 777 primers. He's considering going back to pyrodex.. for slightly better groups. "Have to clean the gun regardless" he says.

Is there any powder that shoots as good as pyrodex.. but w/o the fouling?

Pyrodex is a good powder without a doubt. The fowling is not all that bad unless you shoot a large number of rounds. Goex is another great consistant powder, but again you have to keep an eye on the fowling. In your case I would stick with what you are using.

The only other thing you can have your father do is try different powder and test them for himself.. good luck

cayugad... That's what I was originally planning on.. but my can of 2f 777 is about gone.. and was considering picking up something else for us to try out. I can always go back to the 2f 777.. since I know that load will work. Was originally considering the APP/Shockey's Gold.. but after reading all the negatives by you and others.. I think I'll save my $$$. Another one I was considering trying was the Goex Pinnacle.. as we have it on clearance at work for $16 a can. But I thought I remembered reading somewhere that it was the same stuff as APP? Not for sure though. Would really like to try some Black Mag3.. but I can't seem to find it locally.

I was shooting American Pioneer Powder 3f. When I used to shoot the 2f I got good accuracy with it out of my Knight Wolverine.

I have some Black Mag 3 and will be shooting that next week to see how the rifles like that.

KBacon: My gun (Encore) will shoot certain combos of powder and bullets, and absolutely reject others. For instance, my groups are with 3 pellets (50gr) triple 7 pellets and a 250 grain shockwave bullet. However, seat a hornady 240 xtp on two or three 777 pellets and you get a shotgun pattern. But the xtps will shoot fine with loose pyrodex[&:] It's all about finding the components that play well with each other....
Although I just started using the stuff, real black powder has suprised me in it's accuracy and consistent performance. If you can find some GOEX, give that a try. Like your father said, "have to clean the rifle regardless";)

There are not many people who can shoot better than2" groups at 150 yards with a centerfire rifle! If you want to experiment, be my guest, but if I was getting that good of groups with 777, I would not be trying pryodex.
