Elk Season opens here on the Palouse - I'll be there. (so does deer but they are safe from me until much later in the year)

Actually it is rifle season but who cares, I'm still using a ML. As some of you know I have been working in the timber for the FS this summer, but surprisingly I have not really had time to do much scouting. It is so warm and dry here, I have not been ble to get into the thermal covered area where they are probably hanging out.

I'm off this morning to drive into a couple of those areas looking, listening, and smelling.

Good luck to everyone that is getting ready to start the best time of the year... just wish it lasted longer....

Good luck to everyone and stay safe.

I'd just like to thank everyone on this forum for all the information I have received over the last few months. Special thanks to Cayugad, UC and Sabotloader for answering all the specifics about the Ultra Mags and to Sabotloader for that first trip out shooting.

Matt (14 y.o. son) and I are heading out tomorrow morning to chase some deer.

Talk to you all soon.

I can not wait for elk hunting next year. This year I will hunt deer but I hope to get elk hunting next year. It will be my first with a muzzleloader.

Scouting report.... Friday morning 11:04, 20 yards, 6 cows and calves, one spike, and one big bull up the hill maybe another 30 yards! Dang!!!

I was five days early, armed with a Remington 870 with #4 turkey shot... I did blow a couple of very soft cow calls at then... really ticked off the big bull -he bugled at me a couple of times the second one was really a mad one and he started coming down stomping and swiping the brush on his way. Me and my number4 left... sure hope he is around and in the same mood Tuesday.

Great report sabotloader!I'm sure you'll be ready for one of those big stinky ones when the (rifle) ML season opens for you. I've yet to encounter "legal" elk in the season I was hunting - even had got lucky two years back and drew a cow tag, but just like the previous years never saw a any elk the whole season! I call it my Washington state elk curse ... LOL.
