lightweight conicals...

I just got my white mountain carbine. Now I need to find a load for it. It's gonna be a short ranged "bush gun" 50-75 yd shots max. I would like to shoot conicals out of it. Problem is, I'm a little apprehensive about pulling the trigger on a 6lb gun that has a 400grain slug stuffed in it. I'm thinking 300grains is about as heavy as I wanna go. Any suggestions? So far, I've done a little shooting with 275 grain maxihunters and 70 grains ffg goex. I could bump up the charge on those and still be comfortable.

look at some of the 270 grain ball-ets, the 320 grain REAL conicals, and the 300 grain Buck slayer made by CVA.. they might shoot real well out of your rifle.

Thanks Cayugad. You think my carbine has any chance of being a roundball shooter?

you could try 50 grains of powder and a patched roundball.. the accuracy would be hard to judge, but it might surprise you.

Buffalo Ballet 270 HP

When you reach this site, the 2nd link on the left is for blackpowder bullets. Then scroll down about half-way to view & purchase the 270 GR Buffalo Ballet. I just placed an order there for three boxes of Buffalo roundballs in 58 caliber. All I use is Buffalo Bullets exclusively now.

RE: lightweight conicals...

Just remember it is a fast twist rifle and the lighter conicals may not shoot as well as bigger ones or sabots for that matter. My shooting partner has one that he only shoots the heavy conicals in, but, uses a reduced powder load of only 80g so the recoil is not that bad.

The rate of twist is the same as my Scout and I like a 250g-300g .429 bullets with mag sabots in that rifle with 90g of T7.
