Default RE: Think I found my Co Elk load

Just about everyone I knowwho shoots the 385 Buffalo bullet uses "standard" charges, pushing the bullet to 1400to 1500 fps. They tend toshoot well at those speeds and have optimum expansion.

My interest in the 410 Hornady centers around some testing I did awhile back with the MMP ballistic bridge sub-base. Although most conicals did not shoot real well with magnum charges and the sub-base; the 410 Hornady was the exception. I got groups around 2" at 100 yards and 1798 fps. This load has a fairly high "thump" factor - both on the elk and on the shooter's shoulder. But up until the introduction of the platimum powerbelt, this load represented the highest perfoming Colorado-legal elk load that produced acceptable accuracy.
