.54 T/C White Mtn. carbine
 

I am looking for some good loads for the .54 cal. white mountain carbine. I want to use Pyrodex Pellets with sabots. What is good load for elk and deer?

No way on the pellets and it depends on when your carbine was made as to whether it's twist rate would be good for sabots. The origional White Mountain Carbines had a fast twist which works well with sabots but they made some with the slower 48 twist so you need to use conicals with them. Have a gunsmith check the twist rate if you do not know how.

As far as the Pyrodex pellets go they are made for inline rifles not caplocks like your WMC. That is not a big deal though the little carbine is a fine shooting weapon with loose powder and using loose powder is not hard.

I would say if your WM has a 1 in 48 twist I would go with goex BP 3F a wad under the patch RB.I have to flinters 50 and 54 cal. both early t.c barrel that shoot excellent with the above ,I like 95 grains of 3F powder .

The deer that got hit by this 54/45 bullet took one step and fell dead into 1-1/2 feet of water in the swamp. Guess who had to put on the waders to retrieve this deer for my huntin' bud???... yep - Me! :(

He uses 100 grains Pyrodex RS with both of his MLs. This one is a Lyman Deerstalker 54 with 1-48" twist.
