powder charges and recoil
 

I'd like to reach 150 to 200 yd shots accurately and killing power for deer with my omega but I am not a big fan of huge recoil, what pwder and charges would you recomend for me. Thankyou!

With out knowing what you are shooting that is difficult.
Some guns have a lot lower charge limit than others.
I assume you have an inline;for long range accuracy I would recommend the 50 / 40 - 200ge Shock Wave if you have a 50 caliber inline read the operators manule start at about 70 gr [RS,FF,APP=FF ect] and go to the limit of your gun keep your targets and compare them if you don't have good enough accuracy for the range you want to shoot try a different powder if that dont work try Hornady SST bullets.
Its a matter of what that particular gun likes you can have two guns that appear to be exactly the same and they will still like different loads or different powders or bullets. Lee

Last year with my winchester .50 inline i was shooting 150 grains pyrodex RS with a 245 grain powerbelt hollow point, It was 7" high at 100 yards and dead on at 200. You'll probably want to stay in the 120-130 grain area with powder. 150 grains of loose powder is really just a waste and doesnt burn it all. Use a bullet in the 240-270 grain area so you dont have as much drop and recoil. If you are using open sights and plan on shooting a deer at 200 yards... good luck! They are hard to see at that distance. And if you are using a scope on that muzzleloader, Shame on you ya cheater! lol

You are right though about large loose powder charges being a waste. In a 26" barrel, 110 gr. of loose is about the maxthat'll efficiently burn. In the longer 28-29" barrels some of the newer muzzleloaders are sporting, one could probably up that to 120 gr. loose.When they talk about 150grain charges, they arereferring to pellet form, not loose. Something about the pellet design produces an more efficient burn, Ibelieve.

[align=left] You need a lightweighthigh Ballistic coefficiency bullet with the more powerful777 powder. Practice with around 100-110 grains using any of these three bullets below in 195 or 200 grain. I think all three can be purchased at Cabelas. Your sweet spot may come with as little as 95 grains... that's what I used. The downfall to these light bullet and powder charges at 200 yards is the rainbow trajectory -- plus unsteady, turbulent weather. You need a regular,calm atmosphere for pleasant results.

Sorry for not being in more detail with what i have tried. I am shooting a .50 omega with a 3x9 scope 150grns of pyro pellets and t/c shockwaves 250grn. With 100 grns of powder I like but 150 is to much recoil. I have heard that for killing power for deer at 150 to 200yds you need maximum charge. I was wondering if i could achieve this without the nasty recoil.

Perhaps you didn't read my earlier post?

Let me also add that your present two pellt/250 gr Shockwave combo has enough energy to harvest deer at 250 yards.... if you can get your ML to shoot a 5" group at that distance. You already have enough power -- what you need to practice is the rainbow trajectory the bullet takes to get there.
