APP FFG is the answer!!!
I couldn't get anything to group in my new sidekick using American Pioneer Powder FFFG. I shot up almost the whole jug.
Lemoyne suggested the FFG. It was the ticket. At 50 yards the holes were touching using Barnes Expanders 250 gr with Harvester Crush Ribs. I used 110 grains of powder. At 75 they weren't more than 1 1/2 apart. Thank you Lee (fellow Arkie) for your suggestion. I reckon there is more to it than just being able to pour the stuff easily. The grains are larger with the FFG, but it wasn't a problem. Size does matter.:) |
RE: APP FFG is the answer!!!
Great report! It is amazing sometimes how certain guns will throw certain bullet/powder combinations all over the place, and then drive tracks with certain other combinations. I can also speak from personal experience in favor of the bullet you are using. It is about the most lethal MZ projectile out there. Good luck. Roskoe.

RE: APP FFG is the answer!!!
I had the same poor accuracyresults earliertoday using Goex FFF in my grandson's new ML. I switched to 777 FFFand the shot groups came right in to the bullseye. Ended up at the 50 yard range using 35 gr. 777 FFF with a 180 gr. 45/50 Speer Gold Dot/Harvester sabot combo. Nice & light for the youngster.
Glad to hear the APP FF worked well for you. With so many powder companies out there now, there's one out there somewhere that brings in those poor shot groups. Sometimes, it's the powder we least expect.;) |
RE: APP FFG is the answer!!!
It sounds like you have the ticket.. now get out there and shoot. Glad to see that the rifle came around.

I just about finished my jug of FFFG AAP. I think I'll get a jug of FFG this time. Hopefully I'll get the same results.

RE: APP FFG is the answer!!!
I am Glad it works for you.I know some of the guys dont like the grain size or like black mag or 777 because they are hotterand they are according to my strain gage the pressure peak is a lot closer to the breach shorter in time peroid and higher which sets up a short sharp whip and I think makes them a lot toucher;but they do work better for light loads for target and such.
Try the whole powder ladder up to the limit recommended by your guns manule it is typical of APP-FF to shoot with more than one load some times you have to back up more than 100yds to fined the best one. My Omega likes XTP and Shock Waves the 200gr shoot with 100 & 150 gr the 250gr shoot with 90,100,120 and130 so for hunting I ended up using 125 with the 250 so if there is a bit of variation from my volume measure it wont make any differance.
