what do you take into the field with you???

Its my first year muzzleloader hunting so I was wondering what you seasoned hunters carry while hunting? Remember hunting not to the range.

When I carry an inline rifle
All of these items fit in my fanny pack and I will not get into the items I take such as compass, GPS, etc. Just the stuff for the rifle.

I make sure I have five pre measured powder charges. Then in an altoids tin,I line the tin with patches and on the patches I place eight or ten of the projectiles I intend to shoot out of the rifle. I pack a few more patches over the projectiles and close the lid. The patches do a couple things... they keep the projectiles from banging around and getting damaged, it keeps them quiet and should there be a need for a patch for swabbing I have six or more of them in the altoids time for emergency.

I then take a dog bone capper with ten 209 primers and I also carry a decapper to remove any spent 209 primers. I carry a short starter to help in loading the projectiles, and an extra loading jag. I will often times take the breech plug wrench, a screw driver, and a small spray bottle of isopropyl alcohol. I use a bottle that held glasses cleaning solution from Wal Mart. The bottle is very small, hold a couple ounces of liquid, and fits in my fanny pack real nice.

All of this will allow me five shots, so with the rifle loaded I have six chances of hitting my target. I can break the rifle down and clean it if necessary. Also do minor repairs. It's all easy to carry, and the fanny pack holds many other items I need during the hunt.

OK, I would bring what I needed on any hunt with a centerfire rifle and may be a sandwhich bag with a couple of cleaning patches and a nipple pick. Yeh I know it is an inline but I still like checking the fire channel to make sure it is clear.

I would also bring 5-7 extra shots in speed loaders.

This can vary quite a bit from one gun to another for the same person that has several guns.
I personally like quick loaders, they are easy to carry, compact and fast, I thick the TC brand is best for me because I use them with PRB as well as sabot.
A compact kit for at least wiping out the barrel; including jag, patches cleaning fluid nipple pick[I use torch picks they have worked well on all nipples and breach plugs for me; if you don't have a removeable breach plug a CO2 set up for poping out a ball with wet powder or [this is not supposed to happened]without powderif you have a removeable breach plug the tools for removing it.
An extra set of quick loaders sealed in a ziplock bag, just in case[I like to have at least 6 shots I could take several deer and a bear here as well as any wild hogs I run across.
What ever capper works fast with that gun.
I always have an extra ramrod although I have never broke one I have had the brush hook them and had to go back looking for them, I keep the extra in the car in the gun case.
I also keep a tool kit with an addition of tools for guns in the car if scope or scope mount should be broke or loosen I take them off and have the iron sights "0" so I can use them. I had a scope go bad on a trip to Canada and the irons saved the day.
Hope this helps give you some ideas. Lee

One thing I do in addition to the above is make sure I have more than enough caps/primers on me. I have had times where while on stand I've looked down and noticed the cap had fallen or gotten knocked off the nipple. Or have dropped the nipple while trying to place it on the nipple. It's difficult to find a smallcap on the forest floor and taking a few extras is cheap insurance for your hunt.

I carry the rifle, loaded & capped. In my fanny pack: capper, three quickload tubes filled with powder/bullet/primer; and a few patches & extra primers in the pack. That's it.

Of course, there's non-gun stuff... climber, water bottle, snack, knife, compass, and strap to drag the deer (use safety harness of stand for that).

Thats easy. When i go muzzleloading i carry my camel pac that has an internal water holder, water of course!, 2 sandwitchs, a granola bar or two, lighter, spare heavy shirt, mittens " i usually wear them", when i hunt with my inline i carry 5 speed loaders with my 209 primers. And ALWAYS a ski mask. With my flintlock i will be carrying a possibles bag with 5 speed loaders filled with powder and lead, extra flints and patches in my flint wallet and i'll have my priming dispenser around my neck. Although i guess i could ditch the possibles bag and carry the stuff in my camel pack. Screw driver for taking my lock off the gun if i should need to. And 2 more important things, A bag of trail mix with my fav stuff and my knife. Good luck hunting i wish you the best. Ah heck, anyone thats going muzzleloading, i wish you all the best.

In a possibles bag: 3 speed loads, patches, powder, capper filled, RBs, lube (sometimes), folding knife.

I have a fixed blade knife on my belt and I load the rifle at the truck.

RE: what do you take into the field with you???

Well, I usually go in "our" flint-only season so for the gun....

2 tins (old Pellet Gun ammo tins)
1 with dry patches, 1 with Borebutter patches
1 small box (homemade, wood w/ leather joint)
spare flints, flint leather, cleaning jag, worm & puller
1 small bottle BP cleaner (large eyedropper bottle, maybe1 oz)
1 small Oil bottle, 1/2 oz
1 small "synthetic" rag
5 speed tubes with powder and bullet
Pan primer
Flint "tool ring" hanging off of my pack
(sm screwdriver head, pick, allen key, pan brush, flint hammer)
Cover for Lock

The rest of my stuff is the sameasany other time.
compass, water, "lunch", spare socks, etc.

P.S. For those who don't know this already.
Some of the "tins" that Pellet gun ammo come in are the same size as 45-50 cal patches and will hold a whole bunch of them nicely. Some also come in screw-top styles so they close nice and tight for use with pre-treated patches.

RE: what do you take into the field with you???

Leaving out all the non ml items.
5 speedloaders (weighed charge and bullet)
full primer capper( a small mint tin with some extras just in case)
decapping tool and nipple pick
short starter
patches
Leatherman multitool
Electrical Tape and wool sock for weather protection

In my truck I leave a small tool box that includes additional items listed above and any thing I may need to dis-assemble or repair in the field. I use to pack it but have never needed the items so I reduced my pack weight but still have them available just in case.

BTW, I actually carry 2 speedloader, capper/decapper and shortstarter in my side pockets for ease ofaccess.

the less bullets you carry the better the hunter you will be.many dads years ago, mine included, raised their kidswith only 3 bullets in their pocket. those friends of mine were deadly shots.i still use this thinkinghunting. might sound foolish but i never have more than 3 bullets hunting and usually only 2 .no doubt it makes you better shot.god bless dads that are gone or unable to hunt with us anymore.boy, good times we had seeing up to 10-12 buck a day, sadly, kids will not be ever to see what we saw.sorry i talked to much.
