Wall Gun Rack
I have gone looking for a simple gun rack. I was thinking of the style that holds two to four rifles horizontally on the wall. They are not around. Is it a bad idea to store a rifle in that way? Does it cause the barrel to develop a sag over time?

RE: Wall Gun Rack
rebel hog found some for you! it is actually supposedly BETTER to store them like that then to stand them up. my shop teacher in HS was also a gun lover like myself. we talked alot. i wanted to build a big solid oak cabinet, but he knew i had alot of guns and got some old ones and some that arent worth ruining. he said over TIME....lots and LOTS of time..the oil and solvents etc will run down and soak into the stock. he said thats why alot of gun stocks break at the wrist of the stock and thats why old guns often look kinda crappy in the wood department. but he could be full of it. im sure it would take A LONNNNG time..but think about it......kinda seems plausible......i like the look of guns hanging on the wall. i just cant do it because theres to many people passing through the house. when i get my custom flinter its getting hung on the wall when im not using it. but theres noone around that will figure out how to load it and where i have my powder. but a CF or something i dont wanna have up there and have a little cousin..sister..girlfriend etc act like they are playin "cop" or something and have something happen so they all stay hidden and locked up till i dont have to worry about that

RE: Wall Gun Rack
There is nothing wrong with hanging a rifle or gun horizontal. People have been doing that for years. The only reason I run all my rifles vertical is for space. I do not have enough open wall space to hang then horizontal. I even considered it when I built my gun racks.

RE: Wall Gun Rack
i am lucky, i turned one of my bedrooms into gun/fishing outdoor room. i hang my hawkins on padded hooks,by itself. i then go in as i am now, turn on computer, look up at hawkins and think of deer hunts i had with it. i have 27 buck tags hanging from hook from 1971 to now.i have not got buck in last 2 years do to the dcnr wipe out the deer plan.anyhow, more you can look at gun and memories, the better you will feel. i love it my room. take care.
