TC White Mountain Carbine
 

Hey folks. I'm fairly new to Black Powder guns and hunting. What little experience I have has been with a TC Encore and TC Black Diamond. In both of these I used sabots with Pyradex pellets. Recently, I purchased a TC White Mountain Carbine from an individual. It is my understanding that TC doesn't recommend using pellets or sabots in this rifle. Is there anyone out there that can help me get started finding a good load for thss rifle? I have FF powder and, according the the manual, I should start with about 80 grains of powder. Is this correct? What bullet would you'll recommend?

The White Mountain Carbine as I remember had a 21 inch barrel and a 1:20 twist. So I would suggest some large conicals try with 70 grains of Triple Se7en and say a 385 grain Hornady Great Plains, or perhaps a T/C 370 grain Maxi Ball. It should also shoot sabots once you find the right one. It sounds like an exciting rifle to own. They are hard to come by because normally those that have them keep them and those that sell them regret it. You can also get a Green Mountain Drop in barrel for that rifle.. It has a 1:28 twist I believe it is..

My hunting buddy owns one and it shoots heavy conicals real well. I will concure on the 1:20 twist rate T/C seemed to be using that in their hunting carbines before the fire.

If I recall Paul loved the 430g Buffalo Bullet Co. bullet with 80g of RS. We could not find or were incouraged to use real bp back then I bet the FF with any heavy conical will shoot good in that rifle.

I bet powerbelts over 300g and .45cal sabots over 250g will work fine as well.

I have one, the early ones were 1:20, later ones were 1:38, maybe TC could tell you what you have based on the serial number. If not you can figure it out with a tight fitting jag on a ram rod and just measure.

I'm presently shooting 385gr Hornadys and they group nice over 80grs. of 2F BP, but the recoil in that little (light) gun is substantial and the bullets start dropping quick out past 75 yards. I'm going to try some 325gr. REAL bullets soon that I hope will shoot good and not pund me quite so much.

The gun it's self is a dream to hunt with, you can walk all day and it's like you didn't even bring a gun or forgot that you had. They can be fussy about what they like to shoot but not terribly so..

Try the big heavy bullets with 90 grains of FF.

I get great results with the Barnes240 gr. muzzleloading bullet with sabotand 80 to 100 gr. of Pyrodex. I think my trajectory is a little better than you would get with the heavier bullets and recoil is less. Before using the Barnes bullet, I also got good results with Hornady 240 gr. bullets in sabots. Both never failed on the deer I shot.

My bullet for the WMC was the Barnes 240 gr., not the 300 gr. bullet. I have edited the earlier post. Sorry for the misinformation.
