Looks like you're gonna have fun playing with the stuff anyway. ;)May turn out your rifle don't like it...but you'll have clean hands. :DI've used it with a variety of loads. Shoots one ragged hole at 20 yards with my .54 "rabbit" load of 30grs. 2f Goex. Shoots good at 100 yards with 70grs. of 2f Swiss. Looking forward to hearing your other tests.

Interesting report cayugad. Both shot acceptable groups and it is nice to have clean hands after an afternoon of shooting.

Well I was only shooting at 50 yards which is not all that ruff of a distance. I find my real test of things comes when I get back further, especially out to 100 yards. That 100 yard distance seems to really seperate the true loads from the possible loads. But you're correct, it does give me something to look forward to.. clean hands and all.

I'm sure your bore was pretty clean after that Permatex testing..... no solvent required.. lol ;);)

Well... with my 777/Permatex results anyways. I forgot, you were using real black. I doubt you needed any solvent with that blackpowder ... did ya???

Actually yes I did. I gave the rifle the usual hot water bath with a little Spic & Span in it. The patches looked clean. But I ran a Birchwood Casey #77 patch down the bore and it came up real dark gray. So I ended up running three of them until they finally came clean. After that I ran an isopropyl alcohol patch and a couple dry ones before the Birchwood Casey Sheath. Of course I was shooting Goex and also did shoot a lot of the Moosemilk patches at the end of the day.

The dark grey was a result of the real blackpowder. It's the graphite in the powder..... it's also the "g" in ffg/fffg

The Permatex must clean everything except graphite. Thanks... I'll remember that because my next permatex patchouting will be with real blackpowder in a few weeks.
