Has anyone tried the new Pinnacle powder?

"Relatively" the same to American Pioneer and Jim Shockey Gold. All have questionable strength/consistency when dealing with larger bullets.

I have tried all of them I know of. Pinnacle seems to be about like777 except that it is a clean [about 20 percent of the residue that Black Pryrodex or 777 leave, but it did not seem to like my Omega or System One as far as accuracy was concerned. I now use APP it is not quite as fast as 777 or Pinnacle but it allows me to shoot a wide range of loads[with FF] and get better accuracy than with any other powder,it also alllows reloading when hunting with out cleaning and I believe it is the least corrosive of all.
Best idea is to try them all,with the difficulty in obtaining Black the corrosiveness of Pryodez the crud rings of 777 the finickeyness of some guns what it really boils down to is what will the gun like then after that you get your choice of the different ones the gun likes.
The road to minute of angle accuracy is not always smooth but the better of the new inlines will do it then the fun begins. Lee

Now, this is interesting, as my understanding is that APP makes Pinnacle for GOEX and the formula (but perhaps not the color or grain shape/size) is the same as APP??

I was at Fort Chambers in Chambersburg PA yesterday, and the proprietor told me he had tried Pinnacle in his flintlock, WITHOUT a charge of BP placed in the bore first, and that his first six shots fired perfectly. Then he started having trouble with ignition, and then had to start using the BP booster charge.

Since six shots from my .73 Jaeger is about twice the number of full-charge loads I can shoot from the bench at a given range session, (150 grains FFg), I bought a pound and will test it next trip to the range. I asked GOEX if Pinnacle could be used in flintlocks without a booster, but they never responded. i guess if your powder mill is constantly blowing up, you don't have time to answer e-mails........

I'll set up the chronograph to see if it is indeed "weak" in large bore guns.......

Along the same line; I did get a response from Magkor about using Black Mag'3 in flintlocks. Their response was it will work but the ignition can be a problem in some flintlocks. They recommend using real black in the pan. I believe the light off temperature of Black Mag'3 is at least as low as Pinnacle so I would really be supprised to see Pinnacle work regularly without the primer of real black. I suspect it may depend on each rifle also as to how the spark performs and what the touchhole situation is as well as the path to the bore. I just got amy firstflinter (Lyman trade rifle) and have not had time to shoot it yet. It is still pretty hot in the Phoenix valley.

I've shot a lot of pinnacle powder. Depending on the projectile and the rifle it can produce some excellent accuracy. Clean up is a real nice too...
