Source for conicals
 

Hi,

I'm looking for a .50cal conical, 300-325grs. It's for a TC White Mountain Carbine, 1:20 twist. The gun doesn't like maxiballs, ormaxi hunters, it does shoot the 385gr Hornady Great plains really well but their weight contributes to alot of drop at 100yards and they kick like a mule in that little gun.

I have not found any in the lighter weight at the normal places so I'm asking if anyone knows where I might find them or any other suggestions.

I think I have a box of REAL 320 grain I no longer shoot pay the shipping and send a few bucks for the lead and there yours

Well, Doug, Cabela's, and no doubt a lot of others, sell these CVA "Buck Slayer" conicals in various calibers. They weigh 300 grains, and can no doubt be driven faster than those GP heavyweights you've tried. I have a pack of these, but have never shot any! So I can't tell you how well they work!

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried the Buffalo Bullet 385 grain conicals out of their fast twist rifles. I am going to start them at 70 grains of Triple Se7en 3f and then push them to see where they start to fail.

These have a hollow base and a small hollow point. So I will not be using a wad of any kind. If they are accurate, I think they would make an excellent deer load. Since I bought an entire case of them at a very reasonable price,I can experiment with them a little..

Any experience with them or thoughts would be appreciated. Doug, what powder charge were you shooting under them? Also I might try a MMP Sub Base under them and see how they react with them.

You've stocked up:D! There's that mixed case of powder and if you mind me asking, where did you get case qty. pricing for the buffalo's?

In my Sidekick, the Buffaloes are a lot easier to load than GP's. They must be a little smaller diameter than the GPs. I'd like to have a hardness tester just to see if they (the Buffaloes) are softer than the GP's or if that is just in my mind. So far the tightest group has been with the GP's but I altered my rest to the better so it'll take more shooting to know if it was the GP's or the rest. I guy has got to keep all the controls but one the same or one can't tell which made the difference[&:].

I suspect the 385 BBs will shoot very well out your fast twist rifle. With 75 grains Pyro P, theSidekick shot the 385 GP's into avery tight (for me anyway)group at 50 yards and almost clover-leafed. May have if I had notmessed up my last shot!

I shot off 40 of the 385 grain today out of three different rifles. I was shooting 70 grains of Goex 3f, 80 grains of Goex 3f, and 80 grains of Triple Se7en. All were fast twist rifles. Two of them were 1/28 one was a 1/32 twist. I was shooting at 50 yards. I discovered if I swabbed between shots the accuracy was very good. Yet I feel I could have gotten better groups.

I want to try them out of the White soon. I was going to wait until I got the scope back on it. I did get pretty good accuracy with them out of the T/C Black Diamond XR and 80 grains of Triple Se7en under them.

I bought the case ofBufflao Conicalsoff of e-bay.

I'm useing 80grs of 2F goex with the Hornady GPs and they were within an inch @50 with a casual rest. I was thinking of bumping it up a little or going to 3f for a faster burn in that short bbl. I think alighter bullet would be better in the recoil department if the gun shoots them well.

There are a lot more combinations I want to try. I just have a lot of other stuff to shoot as well. I sure wish it would cool off.. I hate shooting in the heat.

3-7, Those PR bullets sure do fit what I'm looking for but unless I'm mistaken, they are a dollar each, that's a little much for me. Thanks for the info, and at the other site as well..
