Master Hunter DISC Extreme?
 

I am new to the site and hoping to get a few opinions to what knight claims that it will do. Do you own are have you firedthe Master Hunter DISC Extreme ? Is it worth 800? Do you know of any sites that sell it that offer a military discount?

first off welcome to the forum. I've been shooting a Knight Disc for some time. My Knight Disc is an excellent shooting rifle without argument. While the Master Hunter Disc Extreme is a beautiful rifle, I think if you want a great shooting rifle but do not want to spend all that money... you could purchase a Knight Disc, Elite, or Extremeand have basically as good a shooting rifle without the fancy stock. I've never shot a Master Hunter, but they are guaranteed by Knight in the accuracy department. From all the posts I have read on them, they are a very accurate SABOT shooting rifle. If they shoot as well as my original Knight Disc rifle I do not think you would be disappointed.

Something to consider before you purchase a muzzleloader is where you will be using the rifle and what kind of projectile would be used in your hunting. If it were conicals that are required such as Colorado, then the Master Hunter might not be the best choice. You might want to look into a White Super 91 or M97 in that case. If where you hunt sabots are legal, I do not personally think you would find a better shooting rifle. But, for that money, it better be.

If you want to save a little money, look for a used Knight Disc Extreme, Elite, or something like that. Check the auction sites. Many used in near perfect shape are out there, and they carry the Knight life time warranty. You could also check some other forums where I have seen them listed for sale by some real respectable people.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=52096711#PIC you can see from that auction the reserve price is met. That should tell you how much the rifle is marked up at straight retail. I've seen a few of those go for under 500. Wouldn't be my choice. Cayugad gave excellent advice as usual.

I appreciate the info that you gave me in the PM. Just so you know last year was the first time that I had blackpowder hunted. Yes I am in washington and the hunting seasons are pretty short for modern up here. I'm hunted in alabama most of my life were you could hunt for all season firearm of choice and kill 3 deer a day. I checked the regs and it does say that I have to use 11 caps. It also mentions that the cap has to be exposed to the elements so is that what you meant by open breech? In that case does that mean that most knights are out of the question. Thanks in advance for all of the questions that you guys have anwsered and hopefully will anwser.

Knight still makes some of the old style open breech rifles. The MK-85, Wolverine LK-93, Wolverine LK-II, and the Bighorn are all models with open breeches. Check the gun auction sites and there are some real good deals on the Knight rifles at this time. Some of those models besides being excellent rifles and very accurate shooters, can be purchased very reasonable.

Thompson Center makes the Black Diamond and the Black Diamond XR (extended range) which are open breech and come with a #11, musket and 209 ignition. I have one of them also and they are really good shooters.

Then you can get into some of the White rifles. Doc White has kits for $230.00 that you can put together and you have a .504 caliber G-series rifle with a 22" barrel that will throw large conicals down range with amazing accuracy. Also there are White rifles out there that can be purchased in the $350 range and will do it all for you. They are also open breech and #11 cap ignition.

Just avoid the break open and bolt models and you will be fine..
