New Powerbelt Platinum Bullets
 

I just got the new Cabela's fall preview catalog and they are listing a new Powerbelt bullet. It has a silver plating, aeortip point, and a new ribbed skirt that is supposed to seal better. Anyone have any info on these? I'm wondering if they didn't try to come up with something that can take a little heavier powder charge than the originals.

I saw them in the magazine also. Looking through their muzzleloader section, they sure have reduced a lot of muzzleloading items and rifles from the magazine, unless this is the condensed version?

Those new powerbelts might just be a marketing ploy to see if we will purchase some of them.

Roskoe they have them here in Utah at sportsmans warehouse and it is my understanding that you are correct about being able to be pushed harder. Also they are supposed to stay together better after penetration. But they come with a price. They want 17.99 for 15 of the Aero Tips. To much for my blood. I'll stick to XTPS and Gold Dots

When I checked on them one of the things that they told me was they were made with harder lead and a coating that resisted leading. Lee

i am staying with 295/348 hollow point powerbelt in .50 cal hawkins flintlock.i can load around 80 grs or so and know it will OPEN UP,will knock deer down without RECOIL. i hate RECOIL.

The 348's sure shot well for my elk hunt last fall....But they scatteredon impact[:-]I hope they have improved there product. I would like to give them another try. They sure shoot nice for a no sabot hunt. I was able to push them with 120 grains of pyro sel out of my Encore...good results on paper, bad on impact.

all the power belts are pricey, but worth it IMHO.I shoot them with great results.100 gr. pyrodex pellets , 225 hollow points.

They sure don't keep their website up to date. There is nothing about them on the site. And I emailed them a question about them a week ago without any response.

You can get the same or better hunting results buying copper bullets that cost at least 33% less. Typical 100 gr.muzzleloader speedsor the short distances most ML harvests occur - suredon't require double-bonding, platinum or copper. Plain ol' hollow points in lead or copper-clad - purchased in bulk - along with bulk plastic sabots - is generally all we need out to 200 yards with practice.

I guess if someone only uses several bullets per year, then the added cost of bullets like Platinum Powerbelts doesn't matter-much. But many of use shoot multiple jugs of powder every year. Reloading aisles in hunting stores is where we generally hang-out for bullets -- or we are first in line when closeouts occur on brand-name packaged bullet purchases..... ie...3 years ago when I purchase eight 36-pks of Buffalo S.S.Bs in 285 gr. for $9 each.
