Shooting with the twins, Whites that is!!!!

Picture of Matthew shooting. 25 yard sighting in.

Picture of my soon to be 8 y.o. Josh. He begged to shoot it. I loaded with 40 grains of triple 7.

Matthews group. 75 yards. 10-20 mph cross wind, right to left. 100 grains of Triple 7. 300 gr Horniday 45 cal w/ sabot. (I've been hanging around with sabotloader!!!) Lucky for me, I think he pulled the one shot or he probably would have outshot me. This is with stock open sights.

My 3 shot group. Same load as Matthew's, but with the other gun.

Have to run and get some dinner, will try to write a little more later.

AWESOME... It looks like you had a great day - only they are never long enough to do all the shooting that you want to do and with the Whites you can shoot them all day.

Gosh! I wish I had been there to watch yu guys - it realy would have been exciting. It is really neat to see father/family combinations recreating together in a great sport.

Hope everything went OK.

I dug out a package of Nosler Sabots and they are laying here on the table - Terry should get them in the mail to you Monday... You'll have them by the weekend so you can keep shooten...

How far up the ramp did you have to run the rear site to get it sighted in? Do you still adjustment room?

Now the "labor of love" everybody talks to me about - you got to clean then up... I shoot the darn things so much the "labor of love" is getting really thin... to me it is almost like home work or even worse taxes - it something you just gotta do...

Oh my, you've tainted those rifles with plastic right off the bat!! ;) You get Matthew a decent rest and he WILL outshoot you! Look how he's all scrunched up in that pic, poor kid! :D

Mike - he's got ramp left...at least for Josh's shot.

One of the ramps is 1 line above the mid point and the other is 2 lines above the midpoint.

UC, I have to keep that kid handicapped. I know he can outshoot me. Thanks to Lasik, my eyes are doing pretty good, but not as good as a teenager's.

I am looking forward to getting a set of peep sights. A set of Lyman's should be delivered in a couple days. These ramp sights are just not very convenient to adjust. On one of them, I had to loosen the windage screw, to move the elevation. That's no good. Matthew's did dial in pretty quick. On his third shot at 25 yards it went right through the middle of the bull.

I must say, taking these things apart and putting them back together is a breeze. I can't believe how easy. Working on some work here at home tonight. The breech plugs and hammers are soaking in CLP. We'll see if that cleans them up. Also have the threaded area of the breech plug soaking.

I do have to mention one annoying thing. The rods in the guns pop forward with every shot. Should I just remove them when target shooting and forget about it? Seems that I could file/dremmel a little notch in the rods just in the place where friction piece in the stock comes to rest. Then it would probably stay put.

sabotloader, wish you could have been here also. We look forward to shooting with you again soon. Wish it could have been the first time out, but as you can imagine, I just could not wait.

Since a couple of you made a comment about the safe, here is a better picture. I held out many years before buying one of these. I saw one probably close to 15 years ago and said "that is what I want". Made with old school German quality. 1800+ lbs of steel and concrete (fire barrier). Can take a credit card all the way around the door-to-body gap and the credit card will not fit in.By the way, I sure hope I never have to move.

Another one just because.......
This is looking down the valley from where we shoot. Just struck me today to take a picture of it.

It looks like you are falling right into the swing of shooting them Whites. They sure are a good shooter as you and your son's have discovered. I see you got the youngest one chomping at the bit to shoot also. Now you are going to regret that you did not get three of them. Of course when he gets old enough for one of his own, you can give him yours.. :D

You can tell your son that is some good shooting for the first outing with his rifle. He's a natural.

As for the amount of fiber optic sight, mine is just the first mark over dead center to be on at 25 yards...

RE: Shooting with the twins, Whites that is!!!!

The ramrod moving atad is fairly typical of inlines. You could add a bit of felt or similar to the spring in the stock or justshim it up a little to be a more secure fit. It really isn't that big of a deal though if it only moves an inch or so. You've got to go to that end of the barrel anyway to reload and, if you are hunting, it just makes the ramrod easier to use.

I've had a couple of inlines that dern near threw the ramrod out when fired. With the hollow aluminum rods, my cure was to just bend them a wee bit.

CLP is too expensive to use forsoaking parts and they just don't requirethat expense. I drop all my small parts in acontainer of hot soapy water (not the trigger assemly or breechplug) while I clean the remainder of the rifle. The breech plug goes in a small containerwhich I fill about half full withcleaner called 624 which is made locally. http://techcheminc.com/blended.htm(Iwork on their PCs and get a bonus gallon thrown inwhen I need one). But you don't need to buy that cleaner, any number of off-the-shelf products or homemade solutions will work just fine. I cap the little container then shake it about to get a little washer action then sit it down while working on the other small parts.

The hammer gets a bore brush on the inside and I use a small screwdriver with a patch to clean the hammer face. Just a general wipe down on the other few parts then lay them on a paper towel. Here's the part of my procedure that will make some cringe but I next spray those parts with WD-40 and let them sit for a bit while I return to the breech plug. Pipe cleaners work wonders on breech plugs' flame channels, especially if you dip them in a bit of alcohol first. I run asmall amountof alcohol through the plug's fire channelas a finalflush and just wipe any remaining gunk off the plug, hit it with the air, then let it dry - it gets no lube. Sabotloader has a great procedure for getting the plug ready to reinstall.

If the trigger needs any cleaning... I flush it with alcohol, put the air to it and let it dry, then finally add a drop or twoof CLP.

My compressor sits near where I clean rifles so the WDsprayed parts now get hit with the pressurized air. I putadrop of CLP inside the hammer and rub the surfaces ofall the small parts with a rag that's lightly impregnated with CLP. Theaction cap threads get just a touch of ONE grease or Militec grease.

Trigger goes back on first, then breech plug, then action internals and cap. I make sure the stock is clean and give the spring a drop of lube, then finish assembly. All of that probably takes me about as long as it did to type it. ;)

The rods in the guns pop forward with every shot.
Yeah - I thought the rifle was made that way - to automatically push the ramrod out a little so's it's easier to grab :D

Great pic's of you and your family out having a great time! Way to go!
