Pics of your Rifle and Gear

I know it has been a while since the last thread like this so if please post pics or your Muzzleloader(s) and gear. Feel free to post some or your favorite loads with your rifle(s) or tell a little about it if you like. I don't have a pic my muzzleloader or gear but I will get a pic of both together. Here is a pic of a rifle I would like to get this fall though. It is a Rocky Mountain Hawkens rifle by Pedersoli... 54cal roundball twist (1-65").

It will take a while for Cayugad to get all of his pics posted:)

Mine will be up later in the week. Ol'Betsy is in pieces while I refinish the stock.

What a beautiful rifle... what kind of scope do you have on there? Also, how does that bad boy SHOOT!!

Cayugad-The scope is a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5 power shotgun scope. It'll have to do until I can afford an upgrade (not anytime soon). Right now, my best shooting is 1.5" groups @ 100yds w/250gr shockwaves and 80grains FFFG triple 7. It also likes 250grain Hornady XTP's. I've gotten mediocre results with Winchester Platinum tips and 295 grain Powerbelts. Haven't tried anything from Barnes, yet. Testing is still ongoing, though. I don't think I've even stared to tap into this guns potential yet.;)

I mounted the same scope on my Thompson Center Black Diamond XR and although the scope was low dollar end, there is no way I will change that scope out. In fact a couple season's ago a fellow stopped by my deer stand and was of course wanting to talk. He noticed I had a muzzleloader (during the modern season). He then asked if he could look it over which I allowed. He looked through the scope and commented that I must have spend a fortune on that scope because it was so clear and gathered light so well. When I told him what it costed he did not believe me. They are a real good scope.

The best group I ever shot with the Black Diamond XR was shooting 375 grain Buffalo Bullet SSB's on 100 grain of Goex 2f. At 100 yards all three shots formed a clover leaf. I've never repeated that group but came close a few times. My rifle also shoots the 250 grain shockwaves with 110 grains of loose Triple Se7en 2f excellent. Actually my Thompson Center will shoot about anything I stuff down it. They really are a great rifle.

Favorite would depend on the intended use. If I'm going to do much walking, the G2 would have to get the nod. For sheer pleasure shootingor stand hunting, it would be close between the UMags and the 98. Tend to use one for a few outings then switch to another just for the halibut. The Huntsman is a good rifle and yields consistently "good" results on targets - but I rarely choose it when heading to the hunting woods.

The Encore is a love/hate thing. Took me a long time to get that rifle to shooting accurately and went through several mods and a couple of trips back to TC. Did all that and now rarely pick it to shoot as the G2 is my breakopen of choice. Those G2s are just plain fun little rifles but they'll wallop you good if ya aint careful. That Leupold scope pictured was replaced with a tiny little Millett variable. Haven't been smacked by the scope since.

The Ultra Mags are the easiest to clean of all of them. Most people that clean the TC breakopens omit the step of cleaning the firing pin assembly - I don't and don't advise anyone else skip that little task.

I hope to add a kit gun soon. Perhaps a Kentucky Long Rifle or something similar.

The ole Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken came tonight. Quite a surprise cause the UPS man usually makes his delivery by 6:00 pm...I sat here till 6:30 before I headed to the shop to play. At 9:00 the gal came got me...got home and there she was. She's a beauty. Pics will have to come when I find someone with a digital.

RE: Pics of your Rifle and Gear

I'm in the same boat as Underclocked.I have favorite rifles depending on what I am going to do that day, where I am going to be hunting, and the kind of shots I expect to encounter. If walking my marsh I take my simple CVA Mountain Stalker .54 caliber loaded with patch and ball. The rifle was $39.95 so if I drop it into the muck, I will just rinse it off in the creek. Some of my better rifles I would not like to do that with.

If I'm hunting the hay fields I take a Black Diamond XR shooting Shockwaves. I know I can shoot across the fields with that rifles.

If in a tree stand then I like the Knight Wolverine LK-II. A simple 240 grain XTP and 80 grains will do me there because the shots will be close. If it will be a late afternoon hunt in the marsh I take the CVA Staghorn Magnum because it has a RED DOT and makes shooting is dark conditions a little easier.

So my favorite rifle.. they all are my favorite rifle.

Herman, thanks. I like your black powder ensemble and the coon. Had to look twice to be sure that was indeed a mount.;)

Doegirl is that a ruger 77/50 at the top. How does it shoot. I saw that cdnn has some for sale at some good prices. They would seem to be a strong muzzleloader and you know the quality is good. I have just wondered about the accuracy. Any imput would be helpful.

Nope,;) it be an Encore. I don't believe the 77/50 is in production any longer. The 77/50 is a bolt action gun with that distinct metal band around the stock and barrel. I think you are mixing up my Encore with the Ruger #1. FYI-Herman's pic a few posts back shows an Encore and a 77/50 together.

RE: Pics of your Rifle and Gear

I just sent AmericanPioneeran email a few minutes ago.
For anyone else that can find one and want one I think they are very fine muzzleloaders. When I was shooting it I didn't have a pc to take pic's of the targets but I did have some one hole groups@100 yds with it.Took 7 deer with it from 20 to 70 yds,all head shots.Let a friend use it one day to hunt with and he shot it before going into the woods at 50 yds he was dead center of the target,he didn't get a shot at adeer and when he shot it that night to unload danged if he didn't put it in the same hole.
Only thing wrong with it was that the trigger was so heavy (8 lbs) I posted it for sale twice in the gun and bow adds but didn't get a taker so I decided to fix the trigger and now wouldn't sale it at all.Going to have to get it out and shoot it some soon, took the encore out last week and shot it some with a bullet I had been wanting to try in it,even got a one holer with it again.I have 2 savages and I like shooting them so much that I just put the encore and ruger on hold.
I am at the range from one to three days a week and you would think I would have plenty of time but like tomorrow I have 2 fellows to help set up 3 muzzleloaders a 30/06 and a 270.And if it goes fast I may have time to shoot one of mine.
