WA State Recommendation
 

Hello all. I am looking to buy 2 new MLs, one for me and one for my 14 y.o. son to start dear hunting in Washington State.

I am leaning toward the Knight Bighorn. No other reason other than I like the looks and feel of it better than the Black Diamond.

Is this a good choice or is there others you would recommend. Pros and Cons???

Also, I like the thumbhole stock, but don't think it would be comfortable to carry. Any input on this???

Both are great rifles... Are you restricted to any certain kind of projectile? Like a pure lead projectile or conicals. If you are, I personally feel the Black Diamond is better able to handle a number of different projectiles better then the Knight. The Black Diamond XR also shoots large conicals very well. I own a Black Diamond XR and a Knight Disc and Knight Wolverine. The Knights tend to be better sabot shooters then anything else.

Regulation states: "....a muzzleloading firearm used for deer must fire a single, non-jacketed lead projectile...."

Well I am sure there are some Dead Center lead projectiles that would shoot excellent out of any of those rifles. Since you like the feel of the Big Horn then that would be what I would go after. I am sure it would be an excellent combination..

I have seen the positive posts for the White Ultra Mag. Does anyone know if these are legal in Washington?

Why are they hard to find, not made anymore??? And lastly for now, what is their approximate price tag?

They are legal in Washington - they meet all the requirements and they are an outstanding gun. None of the Sportsmans Warehouses in Washington have one but there are still a few out there someplace - you will have to track them done. $299.00 + $15.00 shipping.

The Omega is not legal in WA. You need to shoot caps, open breech, & lead bullets - sabots are legal.

The last I knew, Twin Falls & Provo still had some - but if everything fails any Sportsmans can use a store locator to find one anywhere in the US.

I am headed to Kennewick tonight and I am taking mine just to do some target practice.

check Pheonix Arizona for an Ultra Mag. I have one, they are legal and they can get the job done with comfort..

I am a Washington State hunter with a Knight Bighorn. Kind of new to the sport as well, but I have to say that I am very pleased with the bighorn. It shoots 460 No Excuses conicals very well. Today I did some experimenting and found that I shoot the 375 gr Buffalo SSB Saboted all lead pretty well as long as you take off the furnished sabot and use a Harvester crush rib sabot. The Buffalo with the out of the box Sabot is too tight to load. The Bighorn has a nice trigger pull, and is pretty accurate out of the box. I got mine through Bud's guns in Kentucky over the internet. I paid 328.00 for the stainless steel with phantom camo and thumbhole stock. Went a little fancier than is required, but I really like the setup.
