your thoughts on a 40 cal???
with the growing trend to get more range when do you thik a big maker will come out with a mag. 40cal. "for the states that the 40 is leagle for big game."
if there seams to be more range with a 45. it seams long middle weight conical in a 40cal with the right twit rate and 150gr powder charge would increac range. and say a 150gr 40 cal should work on deer. L. O. D. Charter member and L.O.S. |
RE: your thoughts on a 40 cal???
well if someone would buy it, I am sure that the rifle companies would be making one. Although from reading a lot of the posts, the .50 caliber seems to be the favorite. I personally would not ever go to something as small as a .40 caliber rifle for whitetail.

Or you can just shoot a .40 cal bullet out of a .50 cal rifle. I think that for the most versatility a .50 cal is the way to go.

I like the .50. I think all this "long range" stuff is overrated, and a big sales job by the manufacturers.

Shooting the 40 cal Barnes bullet in my T/C encore works for me.

RE: your thoughts on a 40 cal???
I like the 50 myself. i dont realy want 40. i am just waiting for one to be made and marked for long range. i was not realy thinking of sabots. i was thanking along the lines of conicals\cva pb. i was thanking long for cal. with the right twist could stablise the 40cal. and being backed with 150gr powder charge. it would have more range. with every thing built right the 40cal could very well be a 250yd+ deer gun.
and i am suprised a big company hasent tryed marketing it as a long range gun. maybe becaus some states dont alow the 40 for big game? how many states would a 40 be leagle in? it is in Fl. L. O. D. Charter member and L.O.S. |
