.45 vs .50?

Looking for a ML that is accurate out to 150 yds. Seems the .45 cal would be flatter shooting that the .50 given the same mag load of 150 grns of pyrodex. Also, what about powerbelts vs sabots?

Once again, thanks for the feedback!...Back40

I would go with the 50 cal. you can allways shoot a qt's 40 sabot 235 grain in your 50 cal.this sabot is flat shooting out to 150 yard and more.as far as the powerbelt there are lots of mix review on this bullet.here is a web page fron percision sabot that may help you out http://www.prbullet.com/

I agree with lonewolf, I shoot the PR Qt .40 235 grain out of my Knight .50 w/ 100 grains 777 3F. I zero it for 100 yards and it's about -3 to 4" at 150. I don't have a chrony, but from the trajectory I'd guess the muzzle velocity at 1850-2000fps.

Go with the 50. It will shoot just as far as the 45 and carry more energy to boot. The 50 will burn the mag charges better than the 45 will just like a 338-06 will shoot a 200gr bullet faster than the 30-06 will. The larger bore will allow more powder to burn before the bullet exits the barrel. Also if you are ever going to use it to hunt elk or moose the minimum might be a 50 cal. I know it is here in colorado and probably other states too.

Maybe Indiana is the only state with this regulation, but when using a muzzleloader the bullets have to be at least .44cal which makes the .45cal muzzleloader shooting a sabot illegal. Several guys in Indiana bought .45cal inlines and shot sabots not realizing they were illegal. Your state is probably different, but something you might want to check out before buying.
