Sabots very tight

I shot some s/w 250 over 60gr.pyro. The group was fine but even with range rod sabots could bearly move down bore. I also tried the hornady xtp 300 w/sabots over same load, again good group but a bear to shove down bore. Has anyone used a better combo that is abit easier loading?[:o] I used a Renegade Hunter 50 cal.:)

You may have a couple of problems causing your "Tight" sabot syndrome...

What I am going to write here applies to .451/.452 (45 caliber bullets). If you are shooting .429/.430 (44 caliber bullets) there are less options.

I'll start with the easier one first. The Hornady's 300 grain XTP's if you got them as a sabot/bullet package - you probably got a MMP HPH-12 sabot, if you switch the sabot to a MMP HPH-24 or Harvester Regular sabot. Both of these arethinner and should slide down just fine. If it doesn' there is another solution - a new sabot just being introduced by MMP a MMP 3 petal 50 cal. or a Harvester "Crush Rib." Personally I would try the HPH-24 b4 trying anything else. See the thread labeled "Tight Bore - MMP has a new Sabot" in this section.

Now the TC Shockwaves - They should come with the MMP HPH-24 sabot BUT there was a run of them that were packaged with the wrong black sabot. If you call TC and tell them they will replace your existing sabot with the correct one.

I am not sure of the twist rate for a Renegade Hunter - my Renegades are all 1 in 48. They will shoot the 250 grain bullet but the are not as accurate as the 300 grain bullet. I THINK the 300 grain being longer stabilizes a little better out of the 1/48 twist. If it is a 1 in 32 twist it will probably shoot both equally well.

good luck in your search...

RE: Sabots very tight

In my .50 caliber T/C Hawkins I have shot the 240 grain T/C Mag Express XTP and noticed they were tight but not impossible to load. I am sure if I put that projectile in a crushed rib sabot it would load much easier. If you want a nice projectile for you 1-48 .50 caliber try a Buffalo Bullet ball-et.
