Lyman rifles ?
 

I was wondering what you guys had thought about Lyman's rifles . I like the look and the sight options . Can I use the large "powder pellets" that weigh 50 grains apiece ? I liked the Plains rifle and the DeerStalker carbine . I'd like to hear what you have to say . Thanks .

I have a Lyman Trade Rifle, 54 cal, I really like it - it is really reliable - it looks and it feels good. It shoots great.

Shooting pellets in a side hamer is always a "crap shoot" as to if you can get them to ignite or not. In warm weather they probably will. I personally would not count on them. You would be far better to use a loose powder. TC does make a breech plug that is called a snail channel and it will ignite Pyro Pellets fairly reliably - but would not count on T7 pellets working.

Pellets are not suggested in traditonal sidelock rifles unless they are specifically designed for them. They shoot loose powder just fine. Lyman makes a great rifle.

i have a great plains hunter........i bought this because it was one of the few that came left handed...shoots powerbelt bullets very accurately.....behind 80 gr. 777........next time i go to the range i'll up the powder level.......and trying other bullets........

Unless you purchase a sidelock that is 209 primer-nipple adaptable, you will not achieve instantaneous ignition using pellets. In most cases with pellets involving standard sidelocks using #11 or musket nipples, you will achieve "no ignition" without priming under the nipple first using loose powder.
