REm. 700 ML price?
What's a fair price for a Reminton 700 ML in very good condition? It's Stainless Steel with a black synthetic stock. 50 cal.

Believe it or not the price is going up since Remington quit making them. They are a good gun. I wouldn't sale one of mine for this price but I think you will be lucky to find a 50 cal SS or blued for less $250 if it is in good condition.54"s and 45's are not seeing the same price rise. |
RE: REm. 700 ML price?
Thanks. I'm going to look at one tomorrow. The price is $250, it comes with the box and all the accessories + scope.

Go in with your eyes open. There are some quirks with a Remington, but than can be worked around. If my two are any indication- they are great shooters - anything you can get down the barrel. HPH-24 50/45 sabots or even theHPH .458 sabot will go down well. |
RE: REm. 700 ML price?
Only thing I don't like is the blowback you get with 150 grain charges. Kicks pretty good with that charge. Rifle shoots better than my skills allow.

RE: REm. 700 ML price?
I didn't think the rifle was ever rated for that high of a powder charge?

The blow-back is dependent on which ignition system you are using. That is one of the little quirks - I speak of. If you are using the Remington 209 system you will get a really decent amount of blow-back if you a using a Cabelas 209 system it is mostly gone. There is a huge design difference between the two. I use a 20 guage shot gun plastic case as a weather shroud - there is not enough blow-back to cause that thin walled shell any problems. UC The 24" Remington was rated at 120 grains because of the length of the barrel. The 26" is considered to be a magnum and 150 grains in Pellet is OK. Actually in my conversations withRemington, and un-officially, the only reason the 120 was set was that was all the barrel was capable of buring at that time and that was with a standard #11 cap. On their web site at one time they said the same thing. This was win the "magnum" rifles were first coming out and promted their decions to come out with the 26" magnum barrel. |

Here's an alternative if you desire a bolt-action. Stainless carbine T/C Black Diamond for $266... new in the box. Less blowback - all three ignitions, much easier bolt removal& best full lifetime, replacement warranty in the fast production firearms industry. Item #U14639.

Totally disagree with T7 on this point... The 700 bolt area is much larger easier to access than the Black Diamond, the bolt does require a allen to remove but once the screw is backed off it falls right out. The blow-back that Randy has you convinced of - itdoes not happen with a Cabelas conversion. The Cabelas 209 nipple does not eatthe 209 spring up as has the Black Diamond. I can not argue the lifetime warranty thing - definitely got the Remington beat there. I have had both rifles and it is my personal belief that the Remington is a better gun than the Black Diamond. In fact I do not even have the Black Diamond any longer, but I still have both Remingtons. |
RE: REm. 700 ML price?
My 700ML was a dern good rifle (one of the original blued ones - added Canadian 209conversion). Familiar handling as I had always liked the Remington 700 centerfires, good trigger imo, scope mount options beyond compare, very good accuracy, and I liked most everything about the rifle EXCEPT cleaning that dern bolt. Probably would still have it had my son-in-law not talked me into selling it to him.

RE: REm. 700 ML price?
If in decent shape 250 sounds pretty good. However like said keep in mind the ignition. #11's aren't worth as much, rem 209 is crap and if it houses the cabelas your probably laughing(provided the previous owner cared for the bolt assembly). If you can I'd ask to see the guts of the bolt assembly, it is pretty simple to take down - plus it will let you know whats required with cleaning it.Bare in mindignitions are easily fixed with the cabelas 209 kit sabotloader references ($40).
My rem 700's have also been great. Yes need to clean the bolt assembly but no big deal, it doesn't take a long time and you get use to dealing with it. Both are great shooters. Just sold one - SS/Syth, cabelas 209 and original #11, power ram rod, original box/documentation &weaver rails but no scope (375 CAD). I am keeping myother MLS (26"). I figure am going smokeless next!!! I put off the move for a few years but it's time to add something different to my cabinet. Thought real hard about the encore as well, but smokeless has some extra appeal. Here we can use it during reg ML season and I am hunting more and more during reg season with the ML...so it seems like a better fit (at this point in my mind anyway). I have a lam/ss savage 10MLII with Accutrigger on order but no money is on the table just yet, just getting him to bring one in with my name on it. Best of luck |
RE: REm. 700 ML price?
It must be my lucky day! I bought the rifle, it's as clean as a whistle. The rifle and scope are in perfect condition, not one scratch. The scope is a Leupold VX II 1X4 with Leupold rings and Quick Release bases. Also all the accesories for cleaning-bore guide, jags, cone shaped ram rod handle. A pack of Rem sabots and half a tin of #11 caps.He had the receipts for the rifle ,scope, and mounting hardware. Original boxes and manuals. Not bad for $250.

Congrats - you really got a good buy... make sure when you get a chance to take the bolt apart - it probably is in great shape also, but best check... There MAY be a possibility that you might want to change the spring in the bolt if you are going stay with #11 caps or actually even if you are going to 209s. The normal Rem spring is 24# - you can get after marketsprings that are 28# and even 32#. I switched both of mine several years ago.... Have fun - bet it is a real shooter.... |
RE: REm. 700 ML price?
EXCELLENT buy!

RE: REm. 700 ML price?
Sabotloader, are those springs stronger ?I'll probably stick with the #11 caps. My 2 Knights use 11's and I've never had a problem with them. The Remington is going to be a back up or I'll keep the scope and use the rifle to trade . I've got a yen for a 25/06.

RE: REm. 700 ML price?
With the VX-II and Quick Release, that is a nice buy. Stay with the #11 caps for that model. These below are the best caps. Click on the tin can for a better view/literature that states #1075. Buy them elsewhere to get the best price.

The springs are stronger - hit the cap a little harder. Rem did have a problem setting caps off once in awhile. When the factory spring was new they shot great but with age the spring weakened to the point it became intermittent, combine that with a little crud in the bolt to slow things down, but with the heavier poundage spring - not a problem... http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=16583&title=BLITZSCHNELL+ STRIKER+SPRINGS Is the Rem you purchased a 24" or 26" model? I am biased, I know, but I think you will like the gun. |
RE: REm. 700 ML price?
Trip 7, I have those caps, that's what I use with my Knights. Sabot, the rifle has a 24" barrel. The reciept is dated Oct. 2000.
|
RE: REm. 700 ML price?
I just field stripped the rifle and it was clean. I'm familiar with the bolt disassembly, the same as the center fire 700. There was a little light brown on a patch I ran through the bolt body, otherwise it was clean.

Some people just live right... I really like the 24" Remington - a lot of people will short change the short barrel as being inadequate - but in the woods in tight spaces it is great... Hope you get out and shoot it soon. Can not remember if I suggested you need to use a thinner sabot than you might use with your Knights. I load the HPH-24's with out a problem + I load .458 bullets with the MMP .458 sabot. |
