Harvester sabots
 

I am thinking of using these with some Nosler Partition .458 in 250 gr. Are these really great sabots or are they just a gimmick? I will be using 125gr of 777 FFFG. Ireally haven't got a clue how much energy and velocity I will be getting, but if there is a place to find this out I woould love to hear about it.

What gun are you putting 125 gr. 777 FFF into?

I did not know Harvester made a .458 plastic sabot. Plus, I've only seen 45/50 Partitions in .451

You should clarify whether you are discussing the standard or the "crush ribbed" sabots.

I use a .458 Nosler Partition - 300 grain PP in a MMP sabot. I do not think Nosler makes a .458 - 250 grain bulletUNLESS they just started making it. Just checked on line not there. If they are making it and you have a source I would really be interested in finding the source...

and I do not understand your question about the sabot - are you asking about the new "crush rib" or the regular harvester sabot. Next question does Harvester make a .458 sabot - I know they make a .475...

How is it that you pre-determined the powder charge? Most folks try different charge levels and see which ones group the best. I would suspect that 125 grains would be a little on the hot side for 3F Triple 7. Might start working up at 5 grain increments from about the 90 grain level and see what happens.

If you want to use a Nosler Partition in that weight range, I would recommend a 260 grain .451 bullet with a 50/45 Harvester sabot; or just get the pre packaged Jim Shockey loads. They have a pretty well established track record on big game.

That .451 260 is a nice hunting bullet.

There is a small chance the thread-starter here has an Ultimate Firearms rifle or a Savage smokeless. Using 125 gr. 777 FFF in any other rifle raises a red flag with me.

I use the Harvester crushrib sabots the black ones
.451. Do they work? You bet they do! I shoot them
in my Omega because thats the only one the tight
bore likes. But as asked by another post; what
gun, Crushrib or regular Harvester sabots. The
crushribs will stand up to the Magnum powder
charge. But I would think you would start low &
work up a powder charge that your ML likes & will
group well with. You might want to look at the
T/C shockwaves 250gr. or so ; they liked to be
kick-started with a powder charge of 100-125gr.

I just got my bullet chart from Nosler in the mail today.Real nice.Approx 2x3 ft,color chart listing every bullet they make.The only .458 partition they make is the one you are using. 300gr protected point for 45/70.They do make a 250gr,but it is .429" partition-HG hollow point.If you want a chart,just email them,they are free for the asking.
