Good Shooting Today
Well mother nature finally letup with all her fury
today, so I got to shoot my Omega today. First I found out the local range was closed for some charity function. So I decieded to go to the farm where I hunt. It took very little time to get the Bushnell red dot sighted in. Was going to put a picture in with post but daughters scanner is on the blink. I started out trying to duplicate what my hunting situation would be like. So I placed the target 50yds away on an oak tree. I didn't have any rest with me so I shot freehand. At 50yds I shot a five shot group measuring a little under three inches, with two & three shots cutting the bull in one hole! I know this is not a great group but it was without any rest. As my time was running out a buddy asked "why not shoot a couple from 100yds?" So I used a fork in a tree as a rest fired two shots both were 3 inches high & could be covered with a quarter. I was shooting a T/C Omega 28" stainless 100gr. APP in stick form, Rem. Kleenbores, Hornady 300gr. XTP's Harvester crushrib sabots; Bushnell trophy red dot sight. It really was a great day. Good Shooting & God Bless..............Danny |
RE: Good Shooting Today
that is some extremely good shooting on your part. Any time some one shoots free hand, and can score like you did, they have reason to be pleased. It sounds like any deer come too close to you is in for a lot of problems. That's a good powerful load your shooting also.
I used a flintlock today and was shooting ball-ets and then switched over to some maxiball. The Thompson Center .50 with 90 grains of Goex 2f shot some excellent groups off the bench rest at 30 yards. After I finally had the Hawkin rifle's flint dulled out completely, I then got out another rifle, a Renegade with a Stainless Steel barrel and 1-28 twist ans shot some 300 grain Speer HP's in .452 and they did excellent with 100 grains of Goex 2f. |

Nice shooting Danny! I am sure happy that you are getting some shooting in... I am somewhat bummed - cause I just do not have time this weekend - but I have ben seeing a lot of elk and turkey in the woods so i guess that makes up for it some... I hope to shoot next weekend... |

I see you have been reading this forum & doing your homework. You are starting off the right way. Nice new gun, smart choice for a 209 primer& nice combination of 300 gr. bulk bullets to save on costs - with an easy-loading plastic sabot to wrap around that thomper XTP. Nice to read threads like this once in a while. Goes to show that a little research at message boards like this onedoes pay it's dividends. |
RE: Good Shooting Today
Aquatech - Good shooting. Glad that the weather finally calmed down for you. Around here it's been so windy that I'm afraid if I shot at 100 yds, the bullet might make a complete U-turn and come back!
Sabotloader - we feel your pain, but spending so much time walking around in the field that you don't have time to shoot has to take a little of the sting out of it. IM jaybe :) |
