Conical source
Thanks to Ed Mehlig and Gary (Contendernut), Bullshop will soon have a .410-385, .451-460, and.504-495 moulds (Bob Bowers aka Super91 designed) to fill our orders!!! BIG thanks to those guys! Soon, in this case, means within just a few weeks, hopefully two or three. The NEW bullets are proven performers in any number of appropriate rifles (many Knights will shoot great with those bullets). Some extremely impressivegroups have been fired with them.
For those of you not familiar with Bullshop, his is a family run operation out of Delta Junction, Alaska. I recently ordered 500 of a lubed and sized.451 421 grain conical he was able to make and deliver for atotal cost of $105 to my Missouri location. His prices (subject to lead cost fluctuations) are fantastic and level of quality is quite high. Here's a link to his pricing http://bullshop.gunloads.com/prices.html. Those prices can flutuate a bit also based upon any special needs (such as an additional sizing effort for my bullets) but they are still fantastic in today's world. My first attempt at shooting his bullets was a no-counter that some bad scope rings turned into a wasted trip. Second effort with my White 98 was done in a hurry as rain was closing in. The vertical spread in this group of 8 shots can be attributed to not-so-careful thrown charges, not-so-careful seating pressure, and just plain operator error especially with regard to shots 3 and 5. The horizontal spread is only about 7/16" in spite of those negative factors. These are extremely good conicals even though the original mould was intended to drop a bullet for .458 rifles. Not so with the NEW moulds he will have coming, they are designed specifically for muzzleloaders. Please check your bore size (land to land) and order that exact diameter or perhaps as much as .001 larger if you wish to try some nice conicals. No custom caster could be responsible for your ordering the incorrect size of bullet. These should be a great alternative to PRBullet conicals as well as the NoExcuses (or store bought varieties) at extremely competitive prices. ![]() |
RE: Conical source
Needless to say, I will be interested. Thanks for the link.

RE: Conical source
Sounds like a great source for some good bullets at reasonable prices. I will check them out also. Thanks for the link.

RE: Conical source
Put together a pic of what Bullshop is currently set up to make for the .504 and .451 calibers. He can size differently if needed (within limits of his available sizer dies). There will be at least two or more offerings to come in those calibers when the moulds arrive there.
![]() You'll have to contact Bullshop Dan for his prices - but they will be very reasonable. Moderators, please remove this if you feel it is too much like an unpaid advertisement. I'm just trying to save folks money while getting enough business going Bullshop's way to assure a continuing economical supply of good conicals from him. There is nothing else in it for me (not even a discount, darn it!). |
RE: Conical source
Will the other .504 be that 495 grain that everyone claims such great accuracy out of the White rifles with? If it is I will be interested in getting some of them to see how they work.

RE: Conical source
Yes, that will be one of the moulds that shouldsoon be in his hands. It was ordered quite some time ago by one of the DWBs and he has arranged to have his moulds (a .410 bullet of similar design also) sent directly to Bullshop. He also has a .451 460 grain NEW mould enroute, and possibly a 460 grain .503/.504NElook-alike mould yet to come.
The NEW bullet design is the one Bob Bowers came up with and shoots great. The NEs - you know the NEs. Big6x6 and n8dawg6 are both wanting some of those NEI 500 grainers. Maybe we should do a group order (really not much of an advantage though given most of us are spread about). Those look amazingly like NEs to me at least. |
RE: Conical source
What diameter would you feel they should be taken to? .503 or .504 ? The do look like a NE.
|
RE: Conical source
.504 would be my choice.
|
RE: Conical source
I would like to see the lube bands a bit bigger. Although the way I shoot cleaning between most shots it would not matter.
|
RE: Conical source
I shot some Hunterman conicals that had only one shallow knurled ring around the bullet with a bit of lube in the knurling. VERY little lube on that bullet but it shot just fine and didn't lead at all.
Wait 'til you get a chance to lay hands on one of these Bullshop bullets with that #2 lube on it. Pretty amazing lube formula...what's on those bullets is plenty! :) |
RE: Conical source
Awesome group UC. Sub MOA in the horizontal. The verticle is spread but precisely what one may expect with velocity spread of 150 fps. I couldn't help but to speculate which shots you swabbed between, but then, I could figure it out at all.
Happy Hunting, Phil |
RE: Conical source
Thanks Phil. The simple answer about swabbing - there was none. :D That's the beauty of a White rifle. Load and shoot, again and again. My guess regarding the reason for most of the vertical spreadwould still primarily be seating pressure differences - I'll try to do better next time I take the .451 out.
I've got some of Bullshop's 500 and 560 grain .504 conicals to try along with a couple of other bullets my next go around. He also sent a few of his .451 450 grain Whitworth conicals. All of them look like shooters but I aint real crazy about going over the 500 grain mark! ![]() TooTall (posts on a couple of forums I visit) sent me some really nice conicals to try. These were from a new mold he had got in from Mountain Molds. That mold will very likely be heading up north to Bullshop. Posted my first efforts with that conical in Cayugad's "Done it again" thread. |
RE: Conical source
Chuck Hill (Big6x6) shot some of those same bullets out of one of his Whites. Think he found the sweet spot. Here is a copy of what he posted:
"Wednesday I had to go to the range to sight in Terrells Disc Elite for the hog hunt..No Problem! I took along the White 97 .45 just to pop off a few shots. I fouled the bore as normal and then shot three, 3-shot groups at 100yds. Load was 80gr by volume fffg Triple Se7en and the 420gr Bullshop .451 conical. You can tell which group was which because I was moving the w/e adjustment from high at 100yds to dead on at 100yds just in case someone wants to pop a hog with it at close range. First groups was lower right, then lower left, then center. Group sizes in that order is 0.97, 0.99, and 0.63! If I'm not mistaken, that is the three smallest, most uniform groups I've shot in that rifle! I've shot single groups that were smaller, but never any three that were that consistant. Average velocity was 1387fps." ![]() |

This thing posted 3 times, have no idea why - duplicate removed.

RE: Conical source
Have an updated pic I spliced together using a pic of unlubed bullets that Mrs Bullshop sent me this morning. Bullets are not as clear but this does show currently available selections.
