RE: Crush Rib sabots
Well if all goes according to the weather guru's
here in West Kentucky Saturday is supposed to be tolerable! A friend dropped off some old wet phone books today so I'll have something to play with. I will be using the Crushrib sabots .451 with the 300gr. Barnes Expanders kleenbore 209 primer 150gr. APP. I hope to run some unscientfic tests with the phonebooks; depth of penetration; condition of recovered bullets. Also try for some good 40-50 yard groups shooting off-hand. So if mother nature will help-out I may have some info to post on Saturday. :D |

Do you remember a poster named Chapman Gleason? I can not remember which we site he was posting one, but he has a website with his penetrations experiments. I was trying to find it to drop a link here but I am running into a wall... He ran his test through 18" of soil then a 2x6 plank and measured the penetration. His conclusion was the Nosler 300 grain Partition achieved the greatest penetration. I sent him some .458's Noslers to try and they virtually performed the same as the .451's - which surprised me - I really though they would get greater penetration. What was the site that dropped inlines? That may have been the place... |

It was the Muzzleloading Forum.Com I think they not only got rid of the inline topics but deleted all that information. I might be wrong there. I remember those tests he did. I just could not recall his name... They were a good test. He packed dirt in a 5 gallon pail/bucket and then had a board on the front of it and shot into all of that as I remember. |
