What loads are you guys using in your Disc Elite
 

Just started shooting my .50 Elite and was wondering what loads are working for some of the other Elite owners.

I have a Knight Disc but it is basically the same rifle with a different ignition system. I found that my rifle for some reason likes very strong charges. We are talking 120 grains of loose powder. I get the best results from 300 grain projectiles down to 200 grain projectiles. The Shockwaves also shoot real well out of the rifle.

Lately I have been shoot a .458 diameter 300 grain Hornady HP which is an excellent design for a bullet IMO. It is not like a XTP. But the hollow point looks reinforced of sorts and it shoots excellent of of my Disc with 120 grains of Goex 2f and a Remington KleenBore Primer.

Hey Cayugad,

I like the idea of the .458 bullet. I hope mine likes the heavier charges as well. Would like to get as much umpf as i can!

In my limtied shooting the 200 shockwaves have shoot the best.

On the list to shoot are

Also got some of Mark's boolets.

I'm hoping to do some testing on hogs soon. My parents both got sick and as soon as they get better I can get back to shooting.

Did you shoot those .458's that i sent you - or did I send you some .458's? I use the .458 Nosler 300 grain for elk - they really do shoot well. cayugad is using the .458 Hornady HP and really he is shooting it well also but the big + is they are rifle bullets being shot at rifle velocities.

I did get 3 .458 bullts from you. I do believe there are Nosler. You know me, I'm in the same camp as you as far as shooting rifle bullts. Just seems to be the way to go. I'm really hoping I can get the Partition and the A-frames to group for me.

No sweat - they will - youmight have to adjust powder loads a little bit - remember they are hunting loads not target loads...

I was shooting a couple of rifles today (big surprise there :D). One was the Knight Disc. I was shooting 120 grains of Triple Se7en and the 300 grain Hornady .458 diamter HP's. I should have documented the target but didn't think of it since I had a couple other rifles out there. That has to be my hunting load. That's all there is to it. I pushed them about as fast as I dare in my Knight and the accuracy was excellent. If Sabotloader ever gets a chance, I'd sure be interested to learn what speed those .458's are doing over a chronograph.

I guess it really is not as important to know their speed as it sounds because I am positive that anything they hit is in for a really bad day. Those steel plates were really singing today from them. Of course at 30 yards off a bench they shot around a 1" group then I had a flyer and blew the hole thing. I am sure glad that Sabotloader was kind enough to share that load information to me. I think they are a favorite bullet for me. I know they will work excellent on deer. I can just feel it.

I then switched toshooting the .54 caliber Renegade with some 300 grain R.E.A.L. conicals. I was only pushing them with 90 grains of Swiss 2f but I do know that load will give a couple ofpine squirrels a real bad day.

After all of that I took a .50 caliber flintlock out and burned off about twenty roundballs out of that. It was just one of them days I felt like really burning off some powder. It was a little cool outside, 7 degrees, sunny and no wind.

what is the main difference between the 300 HP and a 300 XTP?

I have lived here in South East Texas my whole life, the weather you speak of Cayugad does not sound like a day I want to be outside.

What sabot are you using with that .458 Hornady? I believe you are shooting a 50 cal. knight correct?

The XTP is a pistol bullet. The XTP Mag is a pistol bullet that the copper in the nose has been extend and rolled over into the HP so that it will withstand the higher velocities. The Hornady .458 300 grain HP is strictly a rifle bullet (45-70) with a hollow point cavity. The copper on the .458 is thicker and will hold the bullet together better than pistol bullets at the higher velocities of a rifle.

The sabots i sent are MMP-HPH .458 Orange. I do not believe you can get them from Knight any more as Del Ramsey bought their machine. Cayugad did a comparison for me of the two and I think he thought they were pretty much the same.

When Midway USA was down to six packs, I bought them out. So I shoot a .458 Orange Knight Sabot which I think is nothing more then a MMP. I also cast a 405 FP pure lead .457 projectile that I shoot out of them. I also shoot a Remington .458 405 grain copper coated FP commonly shot in 45/70 governments in the sabots. I am down to a couple packs now, so I will have to get ahold of Del and order some soon.

Thanks for the reply on the .458's
If you look on the bottom of the orange knight sabot (Powder Side), and it has anumber inscribed in it I'm almost sure that they are Del's. He helped me when I was trying to identifysome T/C sabots. T/Chas had 3 or 4 different sabot makers, I think they are buying from Del again.
