Portable shooting bench is assembled.
 

I got the folding table legs at Lowe's for $19.plus change. I had a gift card from Christmas from there. I have seen the legs at Home depot, Mernardsand the local ACE hardware store.

I have extra hand holds because I cut the one set out on the narrow part before installing the legs as that was where the balance point was then. The legs moved the balance point because of the double layer on the under side so the legs fold flat.





The first coat of stain is drying as I type this. The stain is some OOP's Behr solid I got for $5.00 a gallon at Home Depot.

Next project is building a rifle rest. :DYa I would rather do it myself.

I found the plans on the net.
Not so lucky on the rifle rest plans so it is going to be from scratch and pictures.

Well here it is with the dry stain. I see why the people took it back, rather dark. But it is going to work just fine on my shooting bench.

I have basically the same portable bench as what you made up, except mine is for right hand shooters only. I use a 5 gal. bucket w/rotating cushioned seat to sit on. It works great!
YourT/C High Plains Sporter looks sweet, but I don't know about the T/Cquick release scope base. I had one years ago and got rid of it. It had too much play in it. I hope yours is better than the one I had.
What's your favorite load in the HP Sporter?

Encore man, My T/C quick release mount works great. I take it off and wash the barrel then went out and shot again just to make sure nothing moved as far as point of impact. A friend Of mine had one on a renagade and also said it wiggled. Come to find out he never put the lock screw back in when he was ready to shoot.
85 grains of Trip 7 pushing a green mmp sabot 230 gr. 451 hp xtp seems to work best for me.

Yes the bench seems real solid and I think ya could really lay on it. Best of all it is portable. I do want a rifle rest other than sand bags (shot bags filled with sand:D).
I have this Idea in my head and will see about starting to get it out tomorrow.

It's been a long time since I had the QR, T/C scope base. The movement I was getting out of this base was side to side. I almost sent it back to T/C, but I modified mine with set screws on the side of the baseto tight'n her up. It workedfine after adding the set screws, but it wasnt' QR afterwards.
I forgot to mention, good pictures of the shooting bench too.

This is my folding bench rest before I put the new and improved top on it which is 1/2 plywood with about 5 coats of finish. As you can see it is sporting ENCOREMAN's new Express rifle.:D

all our benchs at camp are permanet.i made mine out of scrap wood.it has roof on it also.i only carry my bags out and gun, no table. why do so many of you use a portable bench when a permanet one is much better and more solid and not necessary to carry a bench out to shoot?thanks

my table and rest are portable so I can move them all over the yard to shoot at different distances and angles. Also I take the rest part hunting once in a while when I hunt out of one blind over a field. It is for the long distances shots should they ever occur.

There's no doubt that a permanent bench is more solidand I prefer a permanent bench, but there are times when the winds out of the wrong direction or I want to shoot somewhere else. I have a stone quarry a mile down the road for me and it's nice to get out of the wind.

Having a portable bench and target frame plus driving a pickup is a blessing.Not all of us have land at home we can shoot on.

PPH, I like your bench, looks like it would work very well. I also like the rifle, looks great. But I do wish the rag wasn't in front of the rest. What I can see of it it looks so simple to build one from some scrap lumber I have around here. Appears it clamps the rifle both at the forearm and the buttstock.

Sproulman, I would also like to have a perment shooting bench. Problem is I only have a place 25 yards I can shoot at home. I do have the use of the property next door where I can get about 125 to 150 yards before it starts running up a hill. So I can't have any thing perment there. I also wanted a bench at the cabin. One thing I have learned at the cabin is leave nothing out side. Includeing home made wooden gates and other triva stuff, for some reason they tend to walk off.
I had a fish cleaning table I had made and it had a old cast iron sink at one end, I picked out of a ditch one time. I still have the sink but the table just up and dumped the sink on the ground and ran off with the plastic barrel the sink drained into. Our cabin is so hidden there isn't even electric there. Hidden that is except for the drive/trail to it.

I also like the idea of setting it up on the edge of a cranberry marsh and pot shoting yotes as they cross.

i guess a lot of you are not as lucky as me, sorry. out sportsmen club has 7 benchs under roof.membership is 7 dollars a year to club. i belong to 2 sportsmen clubs, so i have 9 benchs to shoot from. at our camps everyone on privateland has shooting bench, i bet 25 in area have them.you can use mine and they let you use theirs. you will not see anyone most of time at camp benchs so you have it quiet. at sporstmen clubs,if you go at right time, no one is there. i see now why you need portable bench where you dont have land you own or sportsmen club. take care.
