I missed 3 times
3 times in a row. I saw two big does standing broadside at about 40 yards. I shot and missed and the deer didn't even move. I reloaded and shot two more times before the deer took off. All shots hit low. I know this because I saw the 3 bullet holes in the tree behind where the deer was standing. Perfect clover leaf group on the tree. The last shot knocked off some hair but nothing else. I can't believe the deer just stood there while I shot and reloaded 3 times. Then the rain and fog moved in and ruined the flintlock day for me. Oh well, back to the bow.

Well at least you saw deer. That always makes my day to see some come in. The next time I am sure will be a charm. But just in case, good luck with the bow, and have a great season.....

RE: I missed 3 times
I had a pretty good rest. That's how I got all the shots to hit in the same place. I have a new fiber optic site and I think I had it lined up wrong. My dad and his buddy put them on their muzzle loaders and mine and they sited it in. I needed to practice with the new site before I went hunting. I watched the deer leave the scene and followed the exact trail for about 100 yards with no sign. I also did looked around for a while in the area for any sign. I was pretty confident, by the deers reaction, that it wasn't hit - just grazed. All the bullets could be accounted for in the tree. The highest one must have just caught the bottom of the hair line. There was no skin, fat or any other material. Just a hair cut.

HAHA I've been there too, they will just stand and stare at ya while you reload and then when you glance down to put a cap on they are gone, better luck on the next one.

Hey!! NOBODY can sight in your gun FOR YOU!! You have to do this yourself. Otherwise, you might miss a deer at 40 yards!!

RE: I missed 3 times
I wouldn't have had them site it in for me but they decided to put fiber optic sites on my muzzle loader. I said that was fine. I didn't get up there until the night before the opener so I trusted them that it would be on. I think I had the site picture wrong. I had the front site bead in the bottom of the rear site groove. That's how it worked with my old site. My dad says it's suppose to be straight across the top with these new ones. I can't believe that would make that big a difference at 40 yards but I guess it did. I will take all ribbing and joking in good spirits. That's to be expected when you miss. My dad just called me from the mountains. He got one with the new sites this morning. I guess he needed to rub it in.

Yeah, you're right, alright! you have to use the SAME sight picture when sighting in as you use when you aim at a game animal. If you like to put the bead in the bottom of the notch, sight it in that way!!

RE: I missed 3 times
Oh well. My dad's buddy missed 3 different deer between Saturday and Monday so I don't feel that bad. This way I still have a tag. I can enjoy the rest of archery season and rifle season without being the camp maid or bush-pusher.
